I just installed the switch in the trunk behind the carpet. With my ipod/iphone adapter installed I hardly ever listen to the radio so didn't really see a need for routing the wires up to the front. Amazingly enough it still manages to get most of the stronger channels even with the antenna down.
I have a 2001 corvette convertible and would like to change out the radio to one that has a CD player instead of a cassett. Any informaiton will be helpful.

The best advice would be to start a new thread with a title that pertains to your question. This one is asking for advice on a power antenna bypass. You might also try posting it in the audio forum. If you're going to use stock, it should be a straight switch, I've done it on a 98 and and 03.

I a dimly aware of the connection between antenna power and the bass portion of the stock Bose speakers (if that's correct). I have a switch in my system (done be the installer, so I can't answer many questions about it), and my system seems to sound horrible, with no bass whatsoever. I could not tell a difference between the antenna up or down.
Can someone confirm that the antenna switch mod does not have the same bass-killing effect as pulling the fuse, that was mentioned earlier?

Is this bass reduction issue specific to the convertible and the power antenna or is this common with all C5 models using the OEM head unit? I have a convertible and I pulled the #24 fuse which cancelled power to the antenna. I have an aftermarket double din NAV head unit, speakers, sub and amp and did not notice any reduction in audio quality, just a reduction in the amount of stations the head unit would lock onto after pulling the fuse.
Does the #24 fuse also effect the antennas in the coupes, FRC or Z06 models?
Where/how did you install the toggle switch? Center console? How difficult was it to route the cables under the carpet/trim?
I put my switch in the ashtray cigarette barrel. You'll have to remove the waterfall, center console and radio bezel to get at it. Running the wires are no big deal. The switch I got at Radio Shack fit perfectly in the gutted lighter barrel and the LED on it lets me know when the antenna is up.

That looks great! Nice idea!
I lost my ashtray when I updated to my double din NAV system, however I wonder if the same Radio Shack switch would work in the power outlet of the center console? Not sure if I want to sacrifice my one remaining outlet however.
Yes, MSG, the switch will fit in the console outlet, too, as it is a standard cig lighter outlet. I didn't use that location as it would require opening the console lid in order to use it. Just easier to go to the ash tray, if you still have one.
I installed what looks to be the same switch through a drilled hole that would be covered by the removable ash tray insert, which is then removed. Using the cigarett lighter insert does look awesome, I will say.
