last night i took the vette out to meet with some friends and car was fine on the way down to meet them...10 miles trip..when we got ready to leave i get in the car, and Service ABS, Service Active Handling, and Service traction control warnings all came on..so i am thinking great..but knowing from what i have read on the forum i understand that i can send it the ebcm to absfixer.com and they will cure this issue?
is absfixer still around? and what have other member's experience with using this company?
also one other thing is i understand you can still drive the car with the part out of the car just wont have abs or active handling ? how true is that?
Don't panic.
reset the codes and see if they come back.
If they do come back yes there are still folks out there that can fix you up on a 2001+.
I think someone here is even saying they can fix some of the early models too.
When those errors come up it will disable the TC and AH.
Turning the car off and restarting will reactivate them, but if the service codes pop up again,,,the AH and TC shut down again. Even then you can still drive, but be extra cautious on wet roads...
Yes, www.absfixer.com is still around. Same thing happened to me last year with the warning light coming on periodically until it stayed on for good. The website has directions on how to remove it and it's pretty easy, one wire harness and six torx screws. The PITA will be trying to get your arm and the screw driver threaded through everything else in the way. But, if me and my 16 yo son can do it, anybody can! once you get it off, cover the connections on the car (waterproof). I did that with plastic and duct tape. I drove it everyday while the EBCM was being fixed and no problems, you just don't have ABS, traction cntrl, or active handling (don't do anything crazy). The EBCM also controls the variable assist steering, so if you drive it you'll notice the steering to be a little heavier while driving slowly around corners (like a neighborhood/parking lot). It's not bad though, just enough to make think "is it a little harder to turn the wheel or is it just me?". I didn't realize it until the second day and looked it up. Finally, when you open the package and unwrap your perfectly working EBCM, make sure your not standing and the only thing under it is the garage floor! I "thought" I had control of it when I cut the last piece of tape from the bubble wrap, but I didn't, and it unraveled like a roll of toilet paper flying through the air and hit the floor. I prayed and then put it back on, and then prayed again, and then started the Vette. All the problem lights came back on so i turned it off and then on again and it worked perfect. no issues since then.
Anyone have an idea why these electronics fail? There are no moving parts and it is a sealed unit..what gives especially after a relative short time. Rob
ok whew...its s 03 z06 with 43,000 miles on her...and i will remove it on sunday from the car the light comes on and stays on, i have reset the code for it to come back almost instantly..tried shutting it off and on a few times..i have checked and cleaned all the grounds i could get too..and no good..so out comes the the unit to get fixed..and from my understanding el original its What goes wrong with the ABS Unit?
Problems relating to the pump constantly running is most usually caused by a faulty part within the ABS EBCM. This is not necessarily something that you have caused. Inside of the EBCM is a semiconductor that has failed and is telling the pump to turn on and never turn off... There is nothing that can be done at this point except for removing the 60Amp fuse located in the fuse compartment under the hood. The only way to repair this unit is to replace the bad part. This is rarely anything the average person can do. Repairing this unit involves unsoldering 6 solenoids and about 30 or so solder connections before removing the PC board that contains the faulty part. After that, their is a surface mount transistor that is removed and then replaced by a new one. Everything is then reassembled and tested. taken from absfixer.com
My'01 just started this problem also..It is giving a C1214 and B2605 code. I cleared all codes and that is what came back..I will look for corrosion and will prob have to send mine off also..
