Sticky 1st gear

2001 6sp. When at a stop in nuetral - often hard to get 1st gear - feels like its obstructed....about 50% of times. Have tried going back into 2nd then into 1st but no diff. If I try to go in a hurry ( light changed and I was distracted...gear will grind) Not an issue when rolling downshift. Fluid has been changed twice. No other issues shifting. 78K miles Likely original parts. Any ideas/pointers to cause appreciated?

Mine is the same way in my C5Z and it gets on my nerves at times.

I have 53'000 on mine.

I had a similar problem where 1st was a bit tricky to get into, after I changed the transaxle fluid it got tons better. When was the last time it had been changed?

Trans fluid was changed recently...no change oted

Thanks for the Bill Curlee thread....I'll be out of the country for a while but the car will be getting several upgrades and I'll provide this info to the mechanic taking care of it. It will take a while but I will report results
