What you are looking at is the outside of the mold. The inside should, note should, be smooth. When you lay the fiberglass into the mold against the inside, it will come out with the smooth exterior side you would expect.

Actually there are guys with C3s that like the Baldwin Motion look which was "hot" back in the day. IIRC one of the versions of the Baldwin cars had this type of rear hatch .To each his own.
