Been busy the last couple of days fixing a few things and also making a couple of improvements. There is such a satisfaction in doing the work yourself.

First I replaced my worn headlight gears with brass gears. That annoying grinding sound is now gone and they work smoothly.

Then I finally replaced my steering wheel position sensor. Took a coue of hours and I have been dreading the thought of contorting my body under the dash but its done. No more service traction control messages. I'm very please about this.







Next was to install my gauge rings. Pretty easy since I had the steering wheel out of the car. They are the plastic rings.









Then to install my painted console and bezel. It matches the car perfectly.





I now have all of the issues fixed from when I bought the car. I'm noticing that the more I drive it, the more I love the car. Now to wait for the ordered parts to arrive.

I must say this forum has been invaluable. It's shown me how to fix these things and a few other items. Thanks to those who contributed for us to learn.

 

Not a fan of 'wood' inserts in Vettes. However, it looks sharp with your painted console! Nice work!

 

The inserts were on the car when I bought it. I'm still on the fence on keeping them.

 

I like the dark wood like you have rather than the lighter tones I've seen.

 

You have been busy and car is looking good. So, what other mods are waiting to be done?

The car runs solid. Engine already has mods so I'm satisfied with the performance. Brakes already upgraded. Just need to do some comfort improvements.

 

Headliner replaced.

 

I'm interested in getting my console painted. My question is where did you tape off the paint line under the arm rest pad?

 

I removed the armrest pad and painted the whole console. I still have to put a felt insert inside the storage area.

Wow.....to shame you have put me! I have 4 very small things I have to do and haven't had the motivation to get them done. You're post will help me get there. Thanks!

 

I did it myself. It was pretty easy. I purchased headliner material from a fabric store and some 3M spray adhesive. Removed all of the old headliner and cleaned it good.

Taped off the trim edges and sprayed the targa with the 3M. Layed the material over it and cut the edges a 1/4" beyond the edge. Then pushed the edge under the trim.

 

Fantastic job! It looks professionally done!
