I remember a similar thread where a guy was proud that he'd never driven his Corvette faster than 75. 
As for "beat to hell," guys with modded cars tend to maintain them to a high state of tune. My C5 has 53,000 miles and doesn't have a single wear item (wheels, tires, rotors, pads, shocks, belts, hoses, clutch, etc.) that has more than 5,000 miles on it. Most have far fewer.

It's my first and last Corvette. When something happens to me, my son will get it. At the tender age of 64 I know that I wouldn't get anywhere near the money out of it that I've put into it. I enjoy simply knowing that it's parked in my garage and that I can drive it on a warm, sunny summer day.
