I bought a set of Ron fellows GS stripes from vettestripes for my car, but have no idea how to install them. The website has no instructions nor were any shipping with it. it says on his site they're easy to install, but not how to. For over a $100, I don't want to screw them up. Anyone have any experience with these they can share? Any help would be appreciated.
Per the links above, there is an "instruction" tab under the C5 products list. Just click on it and it will lead you to the next page which shows the RF fender stripes. Click on those and you will see the installation PDF appear. There is another link that also details the general care and how to prepare the area, etc.
I have installed window tinting and think it is same procedure...suggestion, do not squeegie "dry" decal, always make sure there is soapy water on decal or it will get scratched by the squeegie.. good luck.
May I ask for anyone who has worked with vonyl stripes of any type....What does soapy water do?
I have put on decals in the past without soapy water....Albeit, cringing if I make a mistake.....SO, does soapy water allw flexibility in placement and if you make a mistake, you just easily peel back up?
Using vinyl without soapy water does not allow this type of forgiveness.
And lastly, if one uses soapy water, does this impact the longevity and overall stick of the vinyl?

Good point. I also suggest that you do not stretch the vinyl as that can cause stretch marks. Those look bad on people and on Corvette stripes!

The guy who did my tint always used a water bottled filled with his concoction to keep window tint slippery wet when using squeegee.

After the area has been prepped, the soapy water allows for you to move the vinyl sticker and get it into proper position before it dries. This is especially important with larger stripes or if you are positioning two stripes next to each other. As the vinyl dries you gently squeeze out any air bubbles, excess soapy water and wrinkles. I used a plastic flat blade covered with a thin microfiber hand towel to make sure I did not scratch the vinyl.

Mine came out pretty good...
MSG,
When you say scratch the vinyl, doesn't it have a protective coating on the outside that is later peeled off, exposing the stripe itself? How does the stripe get scratched with this protective outter layer?
All vinyl lettering I have used comes with two outter coats of protection. The side that protects the sticky lettering and the back side that covers the part you smooth out with a plastic blade.
Once you allign the vinyl where youw ant it, you peel half of the vinyl up and lay it down using smooth pressure of teh plastic blade on the reverse side protective paper.
I just didn't understand the soapy part and I have done alot of vinyl on my car without it. I guess I been lucky....or very meticulous. (Maybe both)

It depends on the stripe. Not all stripes have a protective coating. Usually the larger ones do as a result of all the work and handling involved. The black fender stripes I installed did not, however the smaller red and white pinstripes did. Go figure.
Thank you guys! I must have been having a massive brain fart! Can't believe I couldn't find them on their site. I love this forum because there are so many helpful souls here. Once again, thank you all for the info and helpful tips. I'll be sure to post pics when I get it done!
Don, don't forget to post some photos afterwards...and next time I am in Orlando, hope to meet ya! I was there last year for vacation, enjoying the pool at Embassy Suites near the airport. Sucks being in Florida for 4 months without a Vette!!

I only live a few miles from there. Next time you're going to be here, just give me a heads up and we can get together. Always willing to meet another Vette owner.
