My 2003 Z06 makes a funny grinding noise when you turn the wheel all the way such as when backing out of a parking space. As an example, I back out then turn the wheel far left to go forward and it sounds like the wheel is rubbing the fender. I checked inside the wheelwells and I do not see any signs of rubbing?
I have had 3 other C5's and have not had this problem. By the way, the tires are the original Goodyear non runflats.
Mine is definately when turning left. Come to think of it I first noticed it when backing out of a parking space and turning the wheel all the way to the left. I will have to check it going the other way. So that makes two of us?
I will add that it only happens at low speed. If I am over 10mph or so, it doesn't occur
I tried it again today. I was leaving the golf course and I backed out of the parking spot. I backed up turned the wheel to the left and it made the grinding sound. When I got home, I tried it both ways in my driveway and it did not do it either way?
I had the same problem, removed the front sway bar bushings, cleaned them up real good and wrapped the sway bar under the bushings with tephlon tape and re-assembled. Grinding noise eliminated.
mine started recently, checked the reservoir and found while moving the wheel back and forth off the ground that there was some medal flakes. Flushed entire system but still there just a little better.

In addition to the grinding, I have always felt that the steering was too hard. I have had other C5's, a 98,01, and02 and none of them steered as hard as this one. I spent about $600 at the dealer trying to fix the problem. They have flushed the system, replaced the drive belt and looked for codes among other things. They tell me the steering is fine but I disagree. I recently met a guy with a 2000 and I asked Him to let me drive it for comparison which He did. I was right, mine is harder to steer. His car has 80K on it mine has 18K.

Ihad the whole system checked out at the Dealer. They flushed it and put in the new oil and additive per service bulletin.
