I am a single Mom and I feel that I have been scammed by my mechanic and my insurance company. After, my husband passed away my daughter and I inherited his 2003 50th Anniversary Convertible Corvette. I ran over some armadillos a while back. At first nothing seemed wrong, then the ac quit working. Fan belt was off. Took to mechanic said replace belt, etc would be less than $100, then he called and said harmonic balancer was loose, and that would be about $300 to lift engine etc, and fix. I wanted 2nd opinion but he called my parents and got them to pay $400 without my permission. He did not replace bolt nor do any diagnostics. He also told insurance agent that my running over them and off road being repaved did not cause that problem. Wind guard was broke did not fix that either Later on hit a deer from drivers side. Got that fixed, but still wasn't driving right. Took to body shop said transmission needs rebuilt. $1500. Called insurance company said one agent said he could see how that could cause damage & lady agent said had nothing to do with wreck and I would have to pay a mechanic to tear itrans down for $500. I am unemployed and have not money to do so and no man in my life to help me. Vet is now sitting because I am afraid to drive it. Need to sell it quickly. Please help me if you can I have no idea what I am doing or what to do. I am a smart lady but not about cars and no one I can trust to help me. I would be ever so grateful for any advice or help more than you could imagine!!!! I do not even think there was a problem with harmonic balancer now after talking to several people and doing some research. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF U CAN!!!!
Not sure where you live (Guessing south east or west) but this is the for sale forum - try posting under the regional forum for where you live and you might be able to get some suggestions for a good shop to take the car, or get some help.
Might want to start out by filling in your profile and where you live, etc...
Car details, mileage, colors, pictures. As far as mechanical problems, find a local corvette member to look over your car. Don't see how a body shop guy would know it's a transmission issue.
Well planed scam, op joined in March 2010 . To the poster, since you haven't filled out your profile we have no idea where you are located. You could go the the "events/ regional" section and post this in the section where you live, or just give a city where you reside. Most guys on here would be willing to help your family out.

If you have a Corvette club local to you, try talking to some of the owners and see where they get their car serviced. As for the insurance, sounds like you need to elevate your claim to a regional supervisor - especially when you have two agents that can't agree. You can always go trough arbitration too.
Hmm, interesting, didn't we have a widow yesterday with mechanic problems? . Just an observation, nothing personal.
Yes we did. Way to coincidental. This is a silly non-sensical post. Nobody actually writes like that. This feels just like Craigs List scam stuff. I think this same person emailed me nudee pics of a young girl when I sold some wheels on Craigs List.
If they really just want some ding a ling then just post a picture and a simple note "looking for ding a ling... no charge"
sounds like the lady who is going to send me her inheritence, just give me your bank numbers... for the deposit. LOL , so much crap in this world? Really? You think I voted for Obama. And, a body shop that does transmission anaylsis? Really?

Thank yall so much for responding. I went to my profile and filled it out and added vet to my garage. Maybe this will help a little. Today is my birthday and going to my parents for supper so can't stay on. Hit the big "50" same as my car. I love her but she's gotta go. Have certainly enjoyed riding in the Silver Bullet though. Not practical in the country too many damn critters to hit.
Any advice or direction is desperately needed and greatly appreciated. I do want to sell it, but don't really know where to start, how much to sell for, or best way to go about it. I started a letter for bad faith claim to insurance, but really need to sell it and I am sure that the dispute will be a long process. Spoke to the mechanic and he said nothing he could do and for me to do whatever, he didn't care. Nice huh! All me and my family have ever done is give him business. I can assure u never again though.
