Default TPM issue

My tpm gave me the high pressure warning. It indicated that I was up to 42psi. As soon as I could pull over, I checked the tire with my gauge and it registered 33psi. I run 30psi cold, so I checked all tires and I was running 33 on all tires. I checked cold pressure this morning and the tire in question read 30psi, while dic says 39. What gives? All other dic readings are on point. The car is an 02 with 100k + miles. Is the TPM toast or will a reprogram fix?

I really don't know any more than you, but I would try a re-program, and if that didn't work I would replace it.

Maybe others here with more technical knowledge/experience can chime in?

especially if your sensors are the original ones that came with the car.

I suspect your sensor is going bad.

I am not an expert, but I thought reprogramming only causes the receiver to recognize the sensor. I did not think it does anything to the value.

Good luck.

Reprogramming won't help, it may be a sticking diaphragm in the sensor. Before replacing anything, I'd let a lot of the air out. If the reading goes down, put the pressure back to 30. If it doesn't go down, I'd drive the car with lower pressure to vibrate the sensor. It may go back down and then you can correct the pressure. If it doesn't fix the problem, or it happens again, I think a sensor is in your future.
