Talked to our insurance company about insuring the '03 and were talking about collision. She said if someone hits me, it's covered by comprehension. Collision was only if I hit someone. Doesn't sound right to me... does it to you guys? I think she's FOS....
I thought that comp was to cover someone else, if you were at fault. And collision was to cover your car no matter what. In my understanding, that's why if you owe money on your car you have to have full coverage so they cover your car in an accident.
From the Allstate website: "What’s the Difference Between Comprehensive and Collision Coverage?
Here’s an easy way to understand the basic differences between Comprehensive and Collision coverage:
Collision coverage applies when two vehicles hit each other, or when a single vehicle hits an object of some sort (such as a tree, or a pole in a parking structure).
Comprehensive coverage protects you when your car has sustained damage that did not result from a collision, such as either a natural or civil disturbance (such as a hail storm, a falling tree, or an act of vandalism). Comprehensive coverage also protects against damage such as a broken window or windshield, as well as any damage sustained if you accidentally hit an animal while driving. Because these coverages protect you against different types of losses, it’s usually a good idea to include both on your policy.

If someone hits you, it is not covered by Comprehensive (WTF is she thinking?). She is correct about the Collision insurance - that is if you hit someone, and it is your fault, you are covered (obviously have to pay your deductible).

if someone HITS YOU and THEY ARE AT FAULT there insurance is liable to pay for the damages or if they total the car they will give you "fair market value". just remember tho, if no one is found at fault then you are forced to go thru your own insurance inwhich you would need collision to pay for the repairs. if you do not have it you would be SOL and be paying out of pocket.
ive been thru this. i had a 2002 subaru wrx i had the car for 1 month. i DID NOT have collision. i was driving home from work when i was stopped in the middle of the road waiting for someone to make a left hand turn when a truck smashed into me doing 50mph. totaled my car but i was able to drive it home. there insurance paid my car off and paid all the medical bills for me and my passenger.
just remember if you are ever in a accident YOU MUST have a police report it is the only SOLID evidence that the event even took place. just exchanging info is stupid and never works. its far to easy to lie and say the event didn't take place or it wasn't you.
comprehensive covers if you hit anyone or do any property damage, however it will not pay for damage done to your own car. collision is for when you are at fault in a accident. it protects you from being sued and covers repairs to your own vehicle when you are at fault.

Not true. Comprehensive doesn't cover that scenario, liability insurance does. Collision would pay for damage done to your own car (provided you have it).
That's what I thought too. The local person I just called to get a quote from that my dealer recommended said she didn't know what she was talking about. Not in those words but....
Don't mean to throw a monkey wrench into this subject but, blanket statements can get people into trouble. Comprehensive was commonly called, fire and theft, but has since grown to cover other things. Collision covered your vehicle damage from an acciden no matter who was at fault or if the other driver's insurance would or did not pay. The monkey wrench, my state, Michigan, is a no fault state and if you are in an accident, at fault or not, YOUR OWN insurance covers the loss. No collision, no payment. You can sue but usually the other guy has little or nothing to give so you still lose and now you have an attorny fee to deal with.

yea, it sucks here in MI, but I did read the other day the politicians are looking into the uninsured driver fund and where all the money is....something like 10 billion in it now...I wouldn't mind getting one of those payouts again..remember that?

i always thought the 2 were included in the same thing?
Agreed, it's the only bet you hope to lose - you pay money to the insurance company, and you hope you're not in a situation where you need to collect. My tip is to get uninsured coverage as well - you'd be surprised how many people are tottling around the roads with no insurace (or crappy insurance).
A number I heard quote on a tv commercial was one in seven have no insurance. Scam or not, imagine driving around in a $50k vehicle without it.
Do you have this company as your insurer for a Corvette? I ran annual premium at $500 deductibles and the preliminary quote was less than about 1/3 of what I currently pay. What experience do you have with NCM? Sounds really good if the company is good. I don't mean to threadjack - just amazed.

Call Adam. He has the best insurance products around and he's more than glad to explain anything about Car insurance. And I couldn't find a more flexible and annual allowed distance per year.

My wife sells insurance in the great state of NJ. Your collision covers any type of collision, however if the other party is found at fault, they should be required to pay the damages. Comp coverage covers fire, theft, vandalism, windshield breakage, etc. No fault applies only to medical expenses. IE: no matter who is at fault, your coverage pays for your medical expenses.
Note: the above applies in NJ (the insurance rip off capital of the world)...
