Default Corvette Clubs/groups

I was wondering if any of you are associated with a group of Vette owners that does more than gather for eating and displaying their cars? Do any of you have a meeting place where guys and gals wrench on their vehicles, do maintenance, install upgrades, share info, skills, tools ect. ?

The club that I belong to mainly does cruise nights, a few car shows, gathers for dining out and perhaps trips to major events like Eureka Springs or FunFest. Haven't ever seen any interest in doing mod days or just helping repair vehicles.

I'm in a similar type club. They love road trips and cruises. They try to participate in shows that have nice locations, vs. any random parking lot "sit and bake" show.

As to mods and maintenance, nothing club official, however a few of us pair off and work on project cars, etc.

That was the primary reason I joined our local club. I wanted to meet other Corvette owners and share ideas, stories and advice. You get out of it what you put into it!

However as the old saying goes..."I wouldn't want to join any club that has me as a member!"

RTP Corvettes is a very active club, but I don't know if they have a place where the meet to wrench. I'm not a member of the club.

I had thought about joining a local club, nice guys and all, but I am 37 and talking with these guys about there grand kids, retirement, bingo, what wax to use, bitching about fuel prices, driving really slow on cruises , and talking about their Florida snowbird trip every year was not my thing. In fact, if I had a knife in my hand I probably would have slit my own throat after hours of listening to them. I do attend there car show once a year and contribute to there different charities! Nice bunch of guys though just too many years in between to become a member!

I'll still be going 90mph with my hair on fire when I get old someday!!!

I'm 68. I race. I fookin' hate bingo, etc. (But I don't have enough hair left on top to flame up.)

It ain't age. It's a state of mind.

B@lls to the Wall! And Semper Fi.

I understand what you are saying. Even though I am 60 (wow, that sounds bad when you say it out loud ) I am interested in doing, not setting and eating. I looked at the website of the local Corvette Club and went through their photo gallery. I know several of them and they are nice guys but they, for the most part have no interest in getting their hands dirty I could join in and benefit from the experience but still not what I'm thinking about.

I'm wanting to find some space where some gearheads could get together hang-out, compare set-ups, do some mods, whatever comes up. I was hoping someone was already involve in something similar that could offer ideas.

To me, clubs are cool, but too much of a commitment if you want anything out of them. Not saying that's a bad thing, but I prefer to make my own schedule and come/go as I please.

I joined a club, but it is not what I am looking for either. There are a lot of older foks (although I am getting close to that category too) that want to meet for dinner, or watch a play, or go to a ball game, etc. That isn't what I am looking for. I would like a club that emphasizes the cars, like driving them on cruises, racing, working on them and modifications, even talking about them and possible improvements

The club I am in does have a few cruises that are fun. Last year I went on a couple of 300 or 400 mile day cruises with them. They had several that I missed too. They also sponsored an autocross that I helped with. That was a lot of fun.

It is kind of a mix for me. There are a few good things and a few I don't care for. I haven't found a group that likes to work on their cars or modify them, but that is what I would like best.

Scottsdale Corvette Club does a lot of dinners, cruises and trips- much of that driven by the demographics of the membership.

Desert Corvettes in the East valley seems more focused on speed events and accordingly, seems to have a younger membership - - nice to have choices. And as an NCCC member, you generally can attend any other club's events as you choose.

I believe there are 3 or 4 other clubs for enthusiasts to enjoy as well - -

you have discovered the answer to one of the great mysteries of life, LMAO!! generally speaking corvette clubs aren't really "car" clubs as much as they are "social" clubs. it is the major reasons (at least in my area of the country) that there are so many "spin off" clubs, each seeking to find an identity of some sort. sadly however after a few years they all seem to revert back to their origins of being more a social club and a car club. if you really want what you indicate, you would probably be better off looking around for a club that isn't brand or model specific and that has a lot of old "hot rod" types that still enjoy working on their cars. you will probably find a good mix of street rods and customs in a club like that.

good luck with your quest. it won't be easy in my opinion if you concentrate of corvette only clubs.

You are probably correct, and I wouldn't have a problem with a mix of cars as long as they were owned by performance minded enthusiasts. I could not abide the stereo and/or hydraulic crowd. I appreciate their particular interest and passion, I just don't share the passion. I am one of the old "hot rod" types as I still own a 47 Merc and a 67 Chevelle. Both need attention but got push back when I caught the Vette fever. I will probably have to just create my own group if I find enough like minded individuals.

There are two regions of the National Council of Corvette Clubs for KY.
Check out your region on the web site then find one of the many clubs in your area.
http://www.corvettesnccc.org/

They should all have their N.C.C.C. events posted for 2013.
A lot of Clubs have non NCCC events also such as track events etc. those would not be posted on the NCCC site. Some are waxers, some are racers, some are watchers and eaters.

I tried a few clubs and had similar experiences. I don't want to be in a group with club officers, new business, old business, Robert's Rules of Order and all that rot. I either want to drive my car or sit around with guys drinking beer and shooting the **** about driving cars. That's it.

I have a good mind to join a club, and beat you over the head with it...

Don't remember where it's from but makes me chuckle.

We started the Non Club Club of Oklahoma six years ago. Grown to silly nonmembershhip levels ever since:

I FURTHER PLEDGE TO SCORN AND PHYSICALLY FIGHT IF DEEMED NECESSAY BY A NON VOTE OF THE MAJORITY OF NON MEMBERS ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY NON PREAPPROVED "UN" MEMBER TO NOT WANT TO BECOME A NON MEMBER IN THE NON CLUB CLUB WHO APPLYS FOR SAID NON MEMEBERSHIP IF SAID NON APPLICANT DOES NOT OWN AT LEAST ONE

CORVETTE

SO HELP ME, BOWLING GREEN

SIGNED___________________ DATE_______________

Please print, sign and date, then destroy in a manner that leaves no evidence whatsoever!

THE NON CLUB CLUB of OKLAHOMA OR ANYWHERE

THE NONRULES AND WHYLAWS

SECTION ONE – THE NONRULES

1. There are no Rules!
2. See nonrule number 1.

SECTION TWO – THE WHYLAWS

1. The Whylaws are not needed but since they are required for some unknown reason we have agreed to not have the following:
a. No one shall be excluded from nonmembership unless they don’t own a Corvette, know someone who does, never wants to own one, or thinks that Corvettes suck.
b. Dues will not be accepted at any time! If you feel the need to buy something, buy a beer, lunch, dinner or a very expensive mod for another nonmember.
c. Compliments on a nonmember’s Vette are encouraged but not required unless you are trying to trick another nonmember into complying with 1.b. above. Then it might be a good idea.
d. Trash talking on the Corvette Forum, in person, or on any other semi-acceptable form of communication is very much encouraged, but, not required.
e. Modding of any Corvette is permissible at any time for any reason even if no one understands or agrees with the mod in nonquestion.
f. No votes are considered binding for any reason whatsoever for whatever the vote was taken for because,,,,,no votes can be counted because no voting will be allowed or recognized. See Nonrule number 1.
g. Aspirin is the recommended, but non required drug to ingest before reading further.
h. Non Club Club of Oklahoma nonevents are non sanctioned by anybody, any Body unless the nonmembers nonagree that it is cool to show up or not.
i. A fully nonsanctioned Non Club Club of Oklahoma event is defined as anytime one or more nonmembers do anything while doing that function within 10,000 miles of their Corvette or if the nonmember thinks about their Corvette within three and one half weeks of performing the aforementioned thing they were doing.
j. Any nonmember can be identified as driving or parking any Vette as either really clean or really filthy or anywhere in between at anytime unless it is real dark. Then, and only then, unless nobody cares or notices, can such identification and description be a matter of discussion or not.
k. Photographic evidence of Mods are encouraged but not required unless a nonmember throws the smiley face with the BS flag, either in person or on the Corvette Forum or other acceptable communication forum. In case of the noncompliance with this whylaw, nothing will be done, maybe.
l. Street Racing is Officially discouraged and will not be tolerated,,,,but will be graded.
m. At NO Time shall any nonmember not belong to the Non Club Club of Oklahoma unless at that time the nonmember secretly needs to not belong in order to save his or her life, or, get laid.
n. Ricer owners SUCK! Mostly.
o. Nonsanctioned Nonevents don’t count unless any nonmember wants them to, or not.
p. Never, and WE mean NEVER does any nonmember EVER,,,,,,, NEVERMIND!
q. Damn, we are only on q. Well we don’t like q. Or do we?
r. All attempts to increase RWHP or RWTQ are encouraged. But non required,,,,yeah right.
s. Pictures of Non Club Club of Oklahoma NonEvents are Nonsanctioned and cannot be sold, reproduced, copied, edited or given away without the expressed written consent of the pictured nonmember’s car or nonmember. Or not.
t. Really BAD pics can cause death or bodily harm to be inflicted on the photographer by a nonvote of the entire nonmembership.
u. Really tacky, drunken, sober, ugly or any where in between behavior will be noticed.
v. All nonmembers are nonrequired to have on their person or in their console enough quarters to wash their Vette just in case it needs it! Or not.
w. Nonmembers can never renounce their nonmembership unless they don’t have a Vette anymore, pledge to never own a Vette ever again, buy a RICER or decide to purchase a Ugo. In which case a special Non Club Club of Oklahoma nonmeeting will not be called to not decide whether or not the nonmember should lose his or her nonmembership status.
x. In no way should nonmembership in the Non Club Club of Oklahoma be considered as an accomplishment of any kind.
y. In no way should nonmembership in the Non Club Club of Oklahoma be considered as anything to be ashamed of. Unless, (see m. above) then it’s cool, or maybe just excusable.
z. Finally. See Below*

• Nothing on the previous pages means anything at all,,,,,,,,,,unless you want it to, and in that case don’t tell anyone because they won’t or shouldn’t care.

Turned into a 1959 out front, 18 back to me and 141 vettes behind me,,,, for a lunch cruise:

Do the Non Club Club of Oklahoma All Corvette 6th Annual Charity Car Show for the USMC Toys for Tots this summer June 15th. $40,000 and counting for the Tots so far!

My clubs are the various forums available from which I find out about events I'm interested in....

I may do a couple shows and a few cruise ins, but like jc, more about driving, any kind, roadcourse, 1/4, or autocross (which I'm yet to give a try)...

So the consensus is, from a performance/wrenching view, Corvette Clubs suck?! I can live with that, guess I'll just get to know some local owners better and see if any of them share my tinkering interests.
