keep and eye on the windshield installers. mine is only installed mostly correctly because I finished where they left off. they got some silicone like stuff on one of my seats, failed to reinstall all the screws. there are metal pieces on the underside of the A pillars, when they didn't fall off when the screws were removed the guys just ripped them off and bent the crap out of them. guess what, those don't get replaced. they are partially visibe from the outside and I can see they aren't right. I made them do the work in my garage, they didn't want it done outdoors in the sun. I warned them to be careful of the doors vs the wall. one of the guys ended up slamming my door into the garage wall hard enough that it left an impression in the wall. I was right there, he just looked at it and acted like it was another day in the office. didn't apologize at all. I'd done it once or twice over the years also, so I just walked over calmly and used painters tape to tape a folded microfiber over the edge of the door just in case. that one guy...spend most of the time complaining about the C5's design and how the engineers didn't take windshield reparimen's opinions into account when they designed it. the nerve of them right? he says that if engineers talked to windshield guys, they'd design cars differently
by the time they were done, I couldn't even get the roof back on the car. it wouldn't fit. I had to finish screwing the screws at the top of the A-pillar in so they weren't sticking out.
the new glass is great and the brand new weather stripping is nice also. but I'm not happy at all about how the work was done. it makes me scared of what would have happened had I not insisted on being there the entire time
safelite repair, safelite f*#$& up your Vette!
couple other things, warn them about the washer fluid line. scared the crap out of me how 30 seconds after beginning the project they already had most of the cowling pieces pulled off and just tossed them on the engine. they remembered that the washer fluid line is attached to the wiper/cowling after they yanked on it trying to take it apart
and if you have a coupe and they try to use that ratcheting cable device to break the seal on the old windshield, make them do it carefully or choose another method, the shape of the C5's windhshield means that cable comes unbelievably close to being pulled under high tension over the leather(ish) vinyl headliner just above your sun visors. yet another thing that Cafaro wouldn't have done if only he had thought to consult windshield repair engineers. and yes, he wasn't even looking. I was the one to had to warn him it looked likt it was about to rip headliner off alongn with the windshield. man was he pissed when the C5's just broke the cable and he had to go to plan B.
