Default Windshield replacement

Looking to replace the windshield on my 2004 coupe, with HUD.
1. Do I HAVE to use the special "HUD windshield" glass or can I use the regular glass,
2. Anyone know the approximate costs for doing this for each way (using "HUD windshield" or regular glass) ? I hear the "HUD windshield" is much more expensive.

Thanks

regular GM glass is around 600 dollars a HUD windshield is 1500 dollars.. Generic glass is 400 to 1200... as far as labor.. the cost is specific to the region... just call a windshield place, don't get it done at the dealer.. most will farm it out and cost you more because they want to of that cost... go directly to the installer like safe-light, or a local glass place. I would go with genuine factory glass, the generic glass can have some slight imperfections and the surface could be slightly wavy still legal DOT but not what I would want in my car,, sometimes with worn wiper bladed you can see the waviness of the surface of the cheap glass.. You do Not need to use HUD glass.

yes you need HUD windshield
Yes you will need new rubber gasket that goes around windshield, DO NOT replace glass without it.
If you have insurance with glass use it, mine was 1900.00 installed at glass company.

I had the glass in my coupe installed for for $325 (glass and installation). AP glass and no new weather stripping. No leaks. No problems.

There have been a number of forum members here that have a HUD on their car and replaced their windshield with a non-HUD one. It worked fine for them. Your decision - if insurance is paying for it, you might want to go with the HUD version.

NO you do not have to replace with a HUD windshield. YES you need to replace the weather stripping. Forget going to a Chevy dealer, all they do is sub it out to a local glass company. Find the nearest SafeLite dealer and give them a call. My local guy furnished and installed a Z06 thin HUD windshield for $395 plus tax last year. He had it in stock for several years and wanted to move it out. Shop around, good prices are available.
