When the top is up and on the car - there is a piece of cloth that lays across the shelf just behind the driver & passenger seats. When you put the top away, that piece of cloth folds away with the top and I believe it protects the rear window when top is stowed away.
On my car, that piece of cloth has a few holes in it.
I am looking to replace that piece or just remove all-together.
It appears to be riveted to the canvas top, so not an easy replacement.
Think it would hurt anything to just remove it or for functionality, should I replace it?
I got 02 vert and mine is still in good shape. I don't know what to say but I will check back in. Good question. I know mine blows/flops all over the place when top is up and windows down, but doesn't make much noise. I wouldn't think it would hurt to remove it altogether.
I removed mine shortly after I got my '99 in 2010. It flapped around when the windows were down and it covered up the sweet-looking tonneau. I'm not sure it is there to protect the glass - the glass touches only the folds of the cloth. It might have something to do with reducing glare off the tonneau.
Anyway, I drilled out the rivets and disconnected the elastic strap connectors. I've never missed it and it looks much better without it.
