I've had a few people ask me if my C5 was "new". I love the expression on their faces when I tell them its a 98 lol

Too funny! I really think you could throw a Ferrari logo on a new red C7 and fool a lot of (non-Corvette) people. At least initially...

I've never been asked if my Corvette's are a C7s but I do get asked allot if they are new. One time I kind of got in an arguement with a guy. He would not believe my 1998 Corvette was 14 years old. He actually raised his voice at me and then called me a liar. I did not prove to him it was indeed a 98, he wasn't worth my time and he was agitated.
The vehicle I own that get's the "what kind of new car is that" statement is my 1991 Eagle Talon TsiAWD. When I tell them it's a 22 year old Eagle, some ask what is Eagle? Who makes that again? No way is that 22 years old. Even when I say Jeep-Eagle, they look confused. Surely they don't know DSM so I just say Chrysler.

I've been asked if its brand new a few times. once by a mechanic who works on cars all day long
even better might be the couple of guys who yelled at me in a parking lot one time "I hope you brought that Ferrari for me!"

Yep. The three (Plymouth, Eagle and Mitsu) together made up DSM (Diamond Star Motors). All made in Normal Ill.

I graduated from ISU. I remember when they lobbied and built that assembly plant and how much of a big deal it was at the time. It really was out in the middle of nowhere.

I have heard many times over the last 14 years " Is that brand new" and good luck wiith it.... most of these people are not really car people.

The last time I was asked if "it was new "was last summer at a quick mart, from a retired military veteran. when I told him it was 13 yers old, he wanted to argue wth me... as if I ws lying.. I had to show him the registration and the mileage... 85,000 miles.. he just could not believe it.

I take extremly good care of it.. the thing that gets people is the paint and the wheels wells, tires, wheels and rotors... the trick is cleanliness under the car, in the engine bay, and the interior.
Evil - With all your nice tech info over many years....no one has seen a pic of your C5?

If I post one more picture of my car, they will give me a time out on this forum. My car is fairly nice but there are hundreds of really impressive
looking cars on this forum .
Bill aka ET
PS I think over the 13 years my picture post count is in the hundreds of thousands.

Now that Corvette has brought back the Stingray, I'm getting a lot of questions too.

I started working at DSM before the plant was finished. It was fun launching a new plant. It was a big deal then, but it has gone down bigtime. Their sales are pathetic now and the plant only runs 1 shift and I think only partial weeks with some shut down weeks too. (I'm glad I left quite a few years ago.)

The models were the Eclipse and Laser. Followed a year or so later with the Talon. Later a few other models were added.

I went to ISU also, but Iowa State University.

As for this thread, I have been asked a bunch of times if my FRC was a new one. They can't believe how old it is or how little the C5's are selling for.

It's funny how everybody loves MSG once they see the color up close.

If I only had a dollar for every time a Z06 owner has come up to me and said "I really wish they made the Z06 in that color!"

I always want the uninformed to think my car is new . . . and expensive, so off to the garage it goes, after I finish my cruz!

If it never turned heads or got comments, would you even want it anymore?

That's just wrong, I know.

You have a nice vette. I get the same kind of question from people
with vettes . They ask whether. my mods were a option.
I always yes--why disappoint them..

I had a C5 owner at a show ask me what GM option interior I had. He was angry that he didn't choose the same interior option. He didn't believe me when I told him it was aftermarket compliments of Vette Essentials, DD Mods and DSV.
