I'm getting tired of the Hoosier A6 bills and am looking to go to a street tire class with SCCA. Tread wear rating has to be at least 140. Looking for a fast tire that can tolerate a reasonable amount of heat, the car is run as a two driver. Sizes in the good tires are an issue. I wanted to see what others are using on their Z06. I've listed some of the possibilities below.
Kumho XS - F295/ R315 Tires have been out of stock for months and Kumho has no production date in the near future.
Hankook RS3 - F255/ R285 I'm afraid its just not enough tire.
BFG Rival - F255/ R315 I think the front is just too small
Michelin PS2 according to everybody's reviews, but like you mentioned, pricy.
I did my research and for the price the NT05s couldn't be beat. The Kuhmo XS is a much better autocross tire, but like you said, currently unavailable.
There's been a lot of discussion on this topic over on sccaforums.com since the Dunlop Direzza ZII came out and the BFG Rival was launched. You might want to look there and see what has been talked about.
If it were me I'd hold out for the BFG in 255F and 295R.
I sure wish Dunlop made the Star Specs in our sizes. The NT05’s are going to be your best bet since the XS’s aren’t in stock and haven’t been for awhile now. David Green (Tallon95 on here IIRC) ran in ST class last year using the RS3’s on his C5Z06 but if memory servers me right he switched back to SS for nats.
Thanks. I guess for now it will be the RS3 unless some more XS's get made any time soon. It'll be interesting to see how the Rival does since it will have a 255/295 combination almost the same as the RS3.
It kills me to put a tire on that small after using the 295/315 Hoosier A6's.
