I just bought it from Travelers Insurance. All I do know is that it was a Corvette Museum delivery ( 12/2002, to someone in South Carolina) and had several owners since (Georgia and Illinois) and now resides in Massachusetts. It's a 2003 w/25k miles that was branded a "non-collision" total. It obvious needs a new windshield and the roof repaired. I've got another 2003 EB Z06 with 106k miles and liked it so much that I decided to jump on this low-mileage beauty...it'll probably be on the market this spring... There's a picture of it here, if anyone is interested....http://s1092.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=0
It was a "non-collision" total, according to Travelers. I think this means, in insurance-speak, is that something may have fallen onto the vehicle, or something to that effect. But I think it's safe to say that the Z was not moving at the time. Yes, I was surprised that it was totaled, too. I was under the assumption that at 75% of the cars' book value had to be damaged. I think the appraiser listed the repair cost at a little over $4k, and if that's 75% of the book value (~$5.33k), then something doesn't add-up....but, I'm not complaining!
I just received the adjusters report - "VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS BECAUSE A STRUCTURAL PIECE (ROOF) CAN NOT BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED DUE TO THE FACT THAT PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED BY THE MANUFACTURER".
The only place to get fixed roofs now is the salvage yards. The estimate for the fix was $4300. Travelers paid-out $25,888.

Wow, $25,888 is great. I have an 02 with 13,000 miles on it that I thought was worth a lot less.

From what I understand (Icould be wrong) the roof isn't structural as the body is designed like a convertible. I'd look into making it a vert if the roof can't be replaced or fixed. Good luck.
The Z06 should still have the halo tube that goes up the b-pillars and across the top like the coupe. That's the part that the insurance company was referring to.
There is a thread on this car the photos with the back end damage and at that house. The guy did a rebuild thread on it, i believe he got it at an auction i think. but i do remember the photos for sure thing about spring 2012

I pasted this from the FAQ on the top of the page ..............Why does the Z06 have a stiffer frame, is it the fixed roof? No, the fixed roof is just a glued on piece of plastic. It has the vert frame bracing added to the coupe frame.
From GeorgeZNJ "From what I understand (Icould be wrong) the roof isn't structural as the body is designed like a convertible. I'd look into making it a vert if the roof can't be replaced or fixed. I think this one can be repaired without removing it.

That's my other car. I now have 2 '03 Z06's! They're both the same color (EB) with the exact same interior. The one I fixed in 2011 now has 105k miles and runs great. This new one only has 25k miles. Once this new one is fixed, I'll sell the other one.
From 96mogt - "How do you go about buying vehicles from the insursnce company? Do you have to be a registered buyer etc? Jay"
I bought it through a broker. They're very reasonable ($150). Only registered rebuilders or auto repair facilities can bid at the auctions - there's two major ones: CoPart and IAAI.
I think it's going to be a relatively simple fix that even I could do - I'll have my auto-body neighbor paint it. Right now, with temperatures in the low 20's, a stiff northwest wind and still a foot of snow left from the last storm, my ambition has been attenuated, somewhat. I wish I had heat in my garage...and a lift!
