I'm sure a few have done it because of financial reasons but I doubt any have done it because of performance reasons.

Now going back to a C5Z from a base C6, especially a LS2, I've seen numerous times.

I've driven my brothers 08 z and I'd take it over my c5z. The tranny is so much smoother and overall is much improved. I still love my c5 though.

I've seen people do it but for most of them it was because the C5 is much cheaper to track.

Too bad GM didn't make a FRC C6Z...that's one of the big hurdles for me. Otherwise, the C6Z should be a no-brainer if one has the means.

Still love my Z16, tho...

To me that's crazy talk...if I could get a C6Z, I'd easily leave the C5Z behind.

I have both and I love the c5 Z,I actually went looking for a C5Z after selling my 01 to get the 07 C6 Z. I now have a 12k miles 01. David C Hill the cars engineer said it was "the best bang for the buck" and it is. Only thing it needs is a C6Z shifter which is better than any aftermarket except the MGW, 06 rod end links 04 shocks, better airbox and a oil can filter. Dump the stock tires and drive the crap out of it. And of course stay tuned to the Forum on how to keep it running at top chat. Thanks for all the help forum and especially on the DCM lock problem, solved for 75 bucks.

oh yeh one other thing I bought a Lemans Blue 06 std trans and after the 01 Z it paled in comparison so badly, that's why I went onto the C6 Z and there was no comparison. But the C5 Zed really is the cheapest fun car around and your investment isn't huge .

One thing to consider is a prepped a C6Z is much more costly than a C5Z for road racing because of the aluminum frame. Just the difference in welding a cage between these two cars is a huge difference and is a big reason why I choose the C5Z. Even if I could choose a C6, I would take the Grand Sport over the Z06 just because of the frame.

If I didn't track a car... then it would be a C6Z for sure.
