The alternator on my 99 took a dump. I have a spare C6 145 amp alt. Can I use it? The alternator on the 99 is a 115 amp. Was not sure if more amps would hurt anything.

The alternator that came from the factory for all 99 C5 was a 110 amp French made Valeo. The part number is 10246634. it has no decouple clutch and the application is for both standard and automatic transmissions. The use of any other alternator will require a dealership reflash to accept the new alternator to communicate with the 99 PCM.
You do not want to get rid of that alternator , provided it is the original.. if it says 115 amp it is not original. you would be better served to find someone to rebuild it.

Yes, its a Valeo and your correct it's a 110. I got the 115 because It's what the local parts store has as a replacement. I will get it rebuilt. I can do without the the car for a few days. Maybe, I'll get motivated and spend more time on the 62 built rather than wasting gas cruising around. Thanks
