Dumb question, but do the flimsy air dam pieces actually serve a purpose other than scraping on the ground? Does it increase down force, help cool the radiator at speeds, etc?
I'm asking because I would like to lower my car with Zip bolts, etc. I am currently lowered all the way down on stock bolts. The big concern is my driveway is long and super super steep. The air dam starts dragging about the last 8-10 feet of my driveway before I even get to the road, regardless of angle/ speed, and scrapes harder when I transition to the street, again regardless of angle/ speed. Same thing when going up. It's not hurting anything other than roughing up the bottom edge of the air dam, which is no biggy......but it will be much much worse if I lower any more. I think the only option if i want to lower any more is to remove the air dam pieces.
The air dam pieces were missing when I got the car. I drove it this way for a good month before I ordered added the 3 pieces. Honestly, i didn't notice any difference in stability/ cooling once I added the pieces.
Thanks, Keith

Cooling. The center piece is the most important one. I've seen people remove the sides without too much of an issue, but if you remove the center piece you will notice your temps raise.
The Vette is a bottom breather for cooling air. The center part of the air dam is the most important, pushing air into the radiator. I would not run without them especially in a warmer climate. You can just cut 1/2 - 3/4" off the bottom for extra clearance depending on how far you are going to lower the car.
The c6 air dam is junk you just have to keep replacing them the middle air dam materials is junk. You going down the highway the faster you go it just push back not doing the job it suppose too. No good !
