I have been reading about these for supporting the car on jackstands. I am a former 12 year Mustang owner and jacking up a Mustang is easy. Jacking up a Vette seems to be a lot of work to do it right. I have only had my car for three weeks and plan to get under it very soon to bleed the brakes. What is the location of the crossmembers and what do they look like? Man on a Mustang you just support under the Kmember where it connects to the control arms and under the rear axle. Didn't know this was going to be so much work just to get a car off the ground. If anyone has a picture of these crossmembers, please post.
There really isnt much to jacking a c5. People make it seem more complicated than it is. Just jack it like you would anything else and make sure you avoid the rocker panels.
That cross member is not completely flat plus by supporting at the points where the suspension attaches you have the strongest points.
ie no chance of damaging the cross member by having the entire weight of the back of the car on a small point of contact toward the center of the cross member.
I have some 6x6" pieces of 1" thick rubber that I could put between the jackstands and the cross member. Would that work ok?
if the jack stands are at the end of cross member, then you really dont need to put anything between, just make sure the stands are placed so all the area of the stand is connected with the metal. did you look at my pics?
