Default Engine's Done,new options

After my car being in one shop for over a week and not even being looked at, moved it to another and got the news in one day. That's what upset me,I could of already have had a new one on the way by now. Anyway, the options I'm looking at are: 1) rebuild the LS1 that's in there and keep it S/C, 2) Buy a new LS2,3,or 6 and go N/A and sell S/C to recoup some cost and get a warranty with it. Since I don't race or run mine hard,I'm leaning toward option 2. Thanks for your input in advance. Thanks,L8R ZFLASH

Haven't got all the info, but it did have 135,000 on it. They said it could be rebuilt because it's still strong and all major parts good. But the cost of doing it with all those miles and not being able to guarantee how long it would last. I just think it's wiser for a couple extra g's to get a new one and go back to N/A and get a warranty. Sell most of what I can and recoup some of the $$$.I no longer need all that HP, so get a new lsx376 or a 2,3,or 6 at around 430 or higher. Thx,L8R ZFLASH

I'd go with option 2 - nice to have a brand new engine with a warranty.

As you and the others have said, option 2 for sure. Set a budget and buy the best crate motor you can afford.

I too a in the same boat... I have approx 132K on the bottom end of my 01 C5Z... Car runs great, H/C/I, putting down 450 to the wheels, 40-55PSI oil press... Runs cool as a cucumber.. Everything on the top end is only a couple years old...

I myself am contemplating a 383 stroker for mine.... Like you, i don't have to be the fastest Z06 out there... For ME the stroker motor will suffice... All that being said the LS3 is a pretty sweet foundation to start with... Keep us posted.

I'm over being fast, especially here in H-TOWN. If you don't have over 1200hp,don't even try here. I just put a 383 in my '55 Ford p/u,that's what hurts having now to do the same to the car. I just missed out on a LS2 with 20k on it by a week, I'll let ya'll know when I decide. L8R ZFLASH

A nice LS3 long block with LT's and a good CAI is a very nice setup. If you go with a GM crate engine, you will have to get a reluctor convertor box from Lingenfelter. If you do choose to do a cam, they respond very well to a small to medium size cam.

That is same convo I had with myself too, long term is what won out. I've got way too much $$ involved in the whole car, it's cheaper to buy a new engine rather than get another one and starting over. Just my 2 cents,if I would have to do it over,I'd go totally N/A. I'm not a racer so the S/C set up was a waste of $$ for me, plus having to change it's own oil every two oil changes add up. This is why I'm selling the S/C off of it to recoup some cost, new head unit from A&A with just two oil changes on it. L8R ZFLASH

I had a 383 Stroker in a 72 Camaro and it was bad ***. I bet it would be even better in a C5.

Okay guys, here's the update. I've found and purchased a LS6 pull out with 35k miles on it,still bone stock. I got it from Thompson Motor Sport here in Texas, should be here next week. I know I said I was going new,but couldn't pass this up at the price I got it for. Almost, almost want to put the S/C back on, but I'm still going to sell it and keep this one basically stock. Thanks guys, L8R ZFLASH
