we sold our 66 coupe recently and are discussing a c5 or c6 replacement . looking at late c5's or 2008 or up c6 . we drove a used 2005 c6 today and the only emotion i got from it was disappointment . we later sat in a 2010 c6 and liked it better but obviously don't know if there is difference in driving it . wife wants a convertible so i guess we will be patient and check out c5 and maybe a c6 verts . we appreciate the thoughts and guidance you and the c6 folks have offered the last year or so , thanks . . . peace .........ps. if you are selling a used REALLY NICE later model year c5 vert i might be interested , not black , nor yellow [ i like it but...] , and suspect it would be tough to sell wife on red . . .edit ..AUTOMATIC

I'd be curious about why you were disappointed in the C6 too.
Back in 2008, I drove a 2007 vert for about 1500 miles and found it very nice - plenty of power, good mpg, comfortable and some nice options including NAV and adjustable ride. Was sent by my local dealer to pick the car up in Detroit after he bought it at a GM auction. Price was way beyond my budget, but would have liked to have had it in my garage.

I ended up with a C5 because of the C6's I test drove. Wasn't thrilled at all with the clutch in em. I just didn't say wow when I was in the seat. I much prefer the looks of the C6 to the C5. I like the idea of them being newer. I will probably end up with one before it's all over with, but like the OP, just wasn't blown away like I wanted to be.
If its possible I'd do whatever you have to do to get a C7.. That car has got to be the best valued sports car in automotive history. And not just by a little.. I'd say it even beats the GTR in bang for buck
like one gentleman mentioned , he didn't get in the c6 drivers seat and say ''wow'' , i can identify with that . i didn't mention we have a 2000 c5 coupe that we bought 6 or 7 years ago and have put about 3000 miles on which is about the same miles we put on the 66 in 12 years , i hate to drive . i didn't post this to disparage the c6 but simply to say that I wasn't impressed and feel i would just as soon have a second c5 and save a few thousand dollars . i appreciate all your comments , thanks . .peace
I've been kind of looking at C6's lately but I always get back to liking the C5 that I already have. Basically the C5 does the same thing that a C6 would do and it's paid for!
having a 99 FRC I'm pretty well stuck with it. I can't justify getting rid of another low production number car again like I have in the past.
But when I say stuck I mean it as a good thing. This is the vette I have always wanted. I would like a Z06 but at the time it wasn't in my budget and I prefer the lower production numbers of the FRC anyway.
I do think I would like to have a C6 someday but man those C7's are sweet but most likely out of my budget for years to come.
Duane-
Like you, we've had a bunch of Corvettes- most from our days in Ohio- and have had every generation of the brand. Our C6 was a solid car - - much better when I put a Billy Boat Route 66 exhaust on it so it actually sounded like a Vette - -then added some interior touches from Down South Vettes to personalize it.
I had that car 5 years and now another forum member in Oregon enjoys the car - we recently sold the last C3 and slid into this 02 coupe. I'd thought it would be a car I would feel like I'd "settled" for - - big, heavy, under-powered and less nimble than the C6 with none of the styling and raw fun of the older cars. Absolutely was not the case!
Like most, I get hooked on every Corvette we get while it's new, but I really enjoy this one and frankly, almost prefer it to the C6 (although a newer Grand Sport is on my radar) . . .Billy Boats, cross pipe, larger intake and airbox, new Michelins and a few cosmetic distinctions and I'm feeling pretty good about this C5.
I guess it might be like good wine . . you know it when you find it. Good luck with your hunt and if you see anything on the forum or Phoenix Craig's list that you want someone to look at out here, gimme a rattle.
Or a good pair of jeans? 7. Pretty woman?? You know what I mean....
just as an aside , i've never had wine or anything else with alcohol in it . i do understand what you are saying . thanks to you and others for your assistance ..
I kept my C5 when I got my C6. I at first thought I would sell the C5 some day. I wanted a power top because I hated the manual top on my Sky. As time gos by I would sell the C6 first now. I regret not getting a C5 Vert. The C6 is faster but it is just too cushy. Too much technology to break. Not as edgy or fun to drive. Don't get me wrong it is a real nice car but I think it's more like a low class Caddy than a sports car. I drove many C6 verts and ZO6s before I got this one as I was not sure witch way to go. I do think the base Vert was the best choice. Every one likes different things but for me the C5 is the best Corvette since the C3 and the C7 won't change that. It looks like a boy racer or a ricer to me.
