Default Matte Black Paint Job??

So I'm fixing to get my car back from the new motor install and I have been wanting to get it painted since I bought it. It's currently black but the clear has faded in a couple of spots where the previous owner didn't take care of it. I really like the Matte paint jobs and I found this one on YouTube and I love it. Let me know what you guys think and if any of you have a Matte based paint job what are the pros and cons of a Matte finish?

http://youtu.be/C4EBRgPGbms

Also if any of you fellas have experience with Matte colors should I get it painted or have it vinyl wrapped? Whatever I do it will also have L5 fenders installed at the time of paint/wrap. Thanks

Here you go..

I am not a fan of the unfinished look, It is kind of a primer look.

Well in the end it's whatever you want, but I have heard that matte cars are extremely hard to keep clean. I've also heard that matte is just a fad, but I haven't been alive long enough to see a major car fad come and go

But whatever your decision is, just remember to never cheap out on a paint job, you get what you pay for

Thanks for putting the video up for my Mr. Bill. I know it's a fad but I like it and that's why I was thinking about doing a vinyl wrap. They look just as good and if I ever decide to sell it or wanted to change the color then I wouldn't be out another paint job. From what I have gathered I can get a wrap from a local guy for about $2800-$3000 and I got a quote to paint it back black for about $5000.

I know paint is one thing not to cheap out on. I have seen this guys work and he does a very good job.

for about $400 you can buy a plasti-dip car kit and make the whole thing flat black, look at "dip your car" on youtube

I've seen a matte black c5 in person and it didn't look good imo. I've seen some really nice looking matte on certain vehicles mainly SUVs but c5 it doesn't look right.

I also was considering this. My car being yellow. My Painter is going to try a sample on my old license plate cover. It is a pain to clean, and if you get a scratch you can't polish it out. I seen a Pewter color and look hot.

Matte finish paint jobs always remind me of my younger days, when the cars we built may have had some body panels from other cars, and we had spent all our money on the drive train, so we painted them with rattle cans of flat black primer....kind of like the young guys now, with their tuner cars. Having said that, I don't care for the look on a Corvette.

I've also heard that matte paint is difficult to maintain and that you can't wax it. I've also heard that it gets shiney spots if you rub in one place too long. I like the look, but I think I'd go with a wrap if it were me. It's pretty inexpensive compared to a paint job, and you can always remove it if you get tired of it.

Your car, your call, in the end its what makes you happy I had experience with a flat black 70 camaro and it looked cool for about 6 months then it got less flat in some areas and ended up with a new paint job. I would stay clear of this idea..my .02

If you're going to do it then do it right - ie: professional not Plasti-dip.

Wrap it, costs less than a paint job and if you get tired of it or don't like it you can always peel it off.

I just painted my dually matte black. Looks sick freaking pain in the a_s.

All dirt shows... a lot worse then shinny black.
It streaks terribly, you cannot wipe of one spot. You always have to clean the entire car.
You can not use a quick clean or glass cleaner on it, again must wash whole car.
You cannot wax out little scratches and the scratches appear white.
Paint car in one shot, if you paint in pieces there will be different levels of flat.
You cannot buff it.

I was told by several body shops that they do not wax well.
I am going to try on some sample parts after the paint is over 6 months old.
Anything will shine of you make it smooth. so i am sure it will shine it up some.

I would not paint a corvette or any high end car that color. Not after painting a truck.
It is just a pain in the a_s... and i like detailing and cleaning my cars but it is just to much work.

I saw a guy at a car show with what I thought was a black primered Mustang-- I assumed it was a restoration work in progress and asked the guy when he was getting it painted . . .he screamed, "I just DID!" and wasn't happy with my question.

It looks rough and unfinished to me - - but, your car . . .your call.

EDIT:By the way- I'm well aware of current styles, but this guy's car just looked like crap.

If you like the matte black look on the car, then go for it - it's your car and your money. However, take the advice of those above before you commit to it. IMO, the vinyl wrap is not a bad option, but in the end, if your paint is not good now, if you later decide to take it off the paint underneath is still going to be bad. You could end up not only paying for the wrap job, but also a paint job later on. Just something to think about.

I saw a matte black c4 once with regular gloss black racing stripes. I thought it looked pretty good, and the racing stripes made it obvious that it wasn't just "unfinished".

Not something I think that I would do myself, but I didn't think it looked half bad.

I really like matte black if it has something to set if off. Pin stripes, racing stripes, flames, something to make it look finished.

but I sure has hell hate owning a matte black truck.
