Default Dog as a Copilot ?

Driving down the road in either my 98, or 74 Corvette with my dog riding shotgun is that a good or bad idea? Last summer my dog was to young to even think of taking with the top down, but now she has a lot of training under her collar.

I have a 70 pound female Golden Retriever what should I put on the seat a cover, or a just a towel? Should I hook her leash to the seatbelt or ?? What kind of dogs do others have that go for a ride?

The only dog I have ever let into my Corvette is my girl friend and I don't tie her down, Maybe she will fly out.

She must not read the forum or you'd probably wake up dead!

Not going to let a dog ride in my C5, but others do and don't mind a bit. I would certainly protect the seats, but your door panels could get a bit messed up too - just something to think about.

I let my dog ride shotgun! Sits on a pillow and is harnessed in! Loves when the roof is off, as the nose goes a mile a minute!

The devil himself will be serving icewater before a dog rides in my car.

Perhaps you'd have more fun if you tie her down!

The dog goes in the DD, not the Vette.

Bill, when I read your post, I laughed out loud. Then, my next thought was that you tell her, that if "you are a good girl, don't growl at the Vipers, or slobber on the door; after while you can have ice cream..."

Girl friends, wife's, you gotta love 'em. All of 'em! One at a time....

Ever since my uncle's chocolate lab jumped from his car at 60 mph and had seizures for the rest of its life I won't even roll the window down all the way with my dog inside. With a vert or removable roof I think a tie-down/harness would be necessary for my peace of mind.

as far as the seat, a towel is fine if it stays on. As someone else mentioned, if the dog's restless your console and door panel could get scratched as well.

Yes - my 75 pound Irish Setter in the vert with a short lease on the seat belt ...

I built a wooden box to fit the floor, level with the seat ... and added another peace of cut up exercise mat to cover the seat & box together - it made a Big AREA FOR THE PUP ... We had Great Times

I think I'd turn off the passenger air bag though.

I took my Golden for ride in my Waco biplane once. She was secured in the front seat. Thank goodness for goggles! She loved it and I got a slobber bath.

My dog is almost four feet long from nose to butt and nearly 30" at the shoulder. He just doesn't fit in our cars. He loves riding in the van, though.
