Ok I was going to take her out today, stretch her legs out on the way to work. But a few blocks from my house the brake pedal got really hard and didnt have to touch it because the car would slow down and stop on its own. I replaced the brake light switch a few days ago, could it been i pressed the pedal too many times and maybe the pads shifted and got stuck because of the cold?
By the time I got home the font pads(only) were smoking. Forced her in the garage in reverse and as soon as she was in the pedal became softer and it was like nothing had happened. All around pads and rotors were replace a few months ago, test drove and all was fine until today.
Any ideas? Should I remove everything and inspect.
You don't have to replace them, just grease the pins the caliper halves ride on. Get a tube of synthetic brake grease. Check to see if the rubber boots are ok, they can tear with age and let junk in that seizes the pin up.
