I have a 2003 50th Ann conv. with 19,000 miles but nead a rt rear shock. In Canada they're about $1,300 and in the U.S about $1,000. gmpartsdirect.com advertises Genuine G.M. Parts and are around $600. Does anyone have any experience with them or any suggestions re my problem? Thanks

You might also check with GMPartsHouse.com. They show the shocks at around $600 each also (if I read the description right on their web site) but not sure what their policy is on shipment to Canada.
I have a front shock going bad on my 2001 vert I have purchased a new set of C6 shocks from parts house and plan on swapping them all out within the next week or so if its the same shock "selective ride" tour, sport , performance and you can wait. you can have mine for free just pay shipping someone please chime in if you think the shocks wont work between the years I am a shock rookie 52 k on the shocks
My .02 cent, if you want to replace the damaged one, check out Ebay for used ones, lots of guys take them out and replace with Bilstein or other aftermarket shocks. Or this is your chance to replace all 4 with aftermarket shocks. Cost of repairing or replacing OEM from GM is way to high. I like the magnetic ride shocks myself but I don't track my vette. Good luck..

The idea was meant to shock and awe for the 50th Anniversary, but really was ultimately headed for faiure before it began.
GM never even got air shocks to workAfter the warranty
Audi Allroad is a foreign example of air shock disaster
Stick with basics...They can easily replaced and tweaked
03 was the first year for mag ride and cant be by passed
i thought i read on here somewhere that the mag ride for 03/04 can be tuned out with a tech 2 machine and the proper procedure? anyone else read or know of this? could save you a lot of money, provided that it's true of course.

I think that was for the F45 suspension. In fact I don't think you need a tune for that system, just a gizmo to fool the computer and regular shocks.

You are right. There is a right up on here some where.
That's a bummer that they couldn't delete the code for you. But at least you can use simulators. Apparently on the 2003 models you can't use simulators so I had to hope someone with a tech II was able to do it. I printed out instructions and handed it to the service manager he said that there shouldn't be a problem and so far so good. It's because of this forum that I found out about all this saved me a bunch of money and I love my new set up. These are the instructions I printed out.
1. Hook up your Tech 2 (Driver's footwell), turn the car ON, make sure the module in the left rear storage compartment (pull back the velcro lining on the front of the compartment) is plugged in. DO NOT UNPLUG THIS MODULE
2. Now use the Tech 2 to delete the F45 option ( F55 option does not appear on the Tech 2 menu screen - SO - DELETE THE F45 OPTION
(use the screen captures - steps 2-14)
3. Save the new configuration
4. DO NOT TURN THE CAR OFF DO NOT REMOVE THE TECH 2 Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the GRAY connector - IT IS THE WIDEST ONE - leave the other 1 (F/45) or 2 (F/55) plugged in.
5. Turn off the car but LEAVE THE TECH 2 PLUGGED IN
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of the car - Never plug them back in again, if you do the F/45 turns on automatically.
7. Now the moment of TRUTH - Turn the car on and verify that the dreaded - MAX SPEED 80 MPH - is gone. This message was only present if you had already disconnected the shock sensors. Some people have had to disconnect their battery to allow the computer to reset to remove this message, but I would confirm with the Tech II that the F/45 was actually deleted first and if not reconnect everything and start again with step 1.
8. Unplug the Tech 2 - Get in the car and take it for a ride. Smile as you pass the DREADED 80 MPH.
