Guess it's time to replace the 11 year old GYs on my 02 Z.
I have narrowed it down to either the Conti DW or the Potenza RE760 mainly due to price and the type of driving I do.
Problem is that the DWs are no longer available in 265/40-17 so I will have to go with 275s. There was a post here a few days ago that said that the 275 in front did not look good with the 295 in the rear (to tall).
The RE760s come in the correct sizes but the 295 seems to be out of stock until June.
the dw would be my choice of the 2, but 265 being gone kind of kills that. the 275 just puts more grip up front and i'm sure looks a bit taller
i have the 760 on my z and they are alright street tires. predictable with good feedback at the limit. problem is the limit isn't really all that high
i'm not sure what i'm going to get next. toyo makes a nice tire in stock sizes but it's priced similar to the ps2. nitto also makes the nt05 but it's rumored to be fairly scary in rain and a 15k mile tire. it is however the best performing of the bunch even though it's a 275/295 combo nitto adjusted the height a bit. the 275 is on the short side for a 275 and the 295 is on the tall side.
for a budget tire i don't see anyway around the re760. i will say they look pretty cool. in fact here's a photo album of my car with the 760s

I agree with Racebum. The Bridgestone Potenzas are a damn good tire for the price, but I believe you can get a set cheaper than $900. As far as the other more popular brands, if price isn't an issue, go for it. The Bridgestone is by no means a BS tire. I've had a set on for about two years now, with 9-10 months of that seat time. It's a pretty good all weather tire, grippy in warm weather and good wet weather grip. I would get another set in a heartbeat. Also like Racebum says its a good looking tire as well. Nice profile/tread design.
given the options that are out there in the standard c5z tire sizes and all the good review's I have read about the Bridgestone Potenzas that is what I am going to get..and they are priced really well too
If I recall correctly the 275 is only 8mm taller than the OEM 265. That is considerably less than a half inch so visibly you shouldn't really be able to notice. I have the OEM size on my front in a Falken and they seem pretty good so far.

Best price just for tires was at Tirerack. $829 including shipping. Then I have to get them mounted and balanced which will surely bring it up over $900.
Costco quoted $920 mounted and balanced. I have to check if that included sales tax. Got their flyer today and there was a $70 coupon in it for any set of 4 Bridgestones so it looks like I am going to Costco.
Town Fair Tire was $962 including tax mounted and balanced.
Sullivan tire was about the same.
The problem now is getting the rears may make me wait until June.

I'm glad you found your tires. Usually at this time of year it seems like there's a shortage of he more popular brands. You won't be sorry with the Bridgestones.
A little late to the party, but I have heard great things about the Firestone Firehawk tires in Vette sizes. They are not run-flats, but spares and run-flats seem not to be all that popular these days, as in the new Camaros.

the wide oval is only available in coupe sizes, not z06. it also has lost every published test against the re760 which we have been discussing
to run the wide oval you would have to find new old stock as they don't appear to be currently in production in z06 sizes

These tires are garbage. I would NOT recommend them if you care about performance. I had them on a previous 99 FRC and regretted it.

Costco says that they can get them, but Tire Rack and Sullivan show that the 295 is on back order until June. I hope that Costco will honor the coupon if I place my order now even though I might not get the tires until June. The $70 would more than offset the sales tax.
what´s with the Hankook Ventus V12 or Michelin Pilot Super Sport?
Any experience?
PSS is the best utqg 300 tire made. it competes with softer tires and wears better.
sadly unavailable in stock sizes but it is in 305 30 19 and 275 35 18
there are really only 3 choices in stock sizes
1. the nt05 which runs short in 275 and tall in 295 making it the go-to for the most grip and the height at 25.6 and 26.2"
2. the re760 which comes in oe sizes and is the go-to street driver tire.
3. the ps2. less grip than the nt05 but a better ride and a much higher cost
the supercars are out gunned by the ps2 in every angle so unless you are an oem nut i didn't see reason to mention them
i'm irked conti discontinued the 265 40 17 DW. that was a great choice in street tires that offered a touch more performance than the re760 in trade for a slightly shorter treadlife
Have you looked into these? They are phenomenal tires and the price is very reasonable. As far as I'm concerned there are no negatives about these tires, they excel in every category. I got them shipped to me for $830 total from L.A. to N.J. Check out Fairmount Tire in LA, ask for Brad, mention the forum for best price.
Shameless plug for NT05s here. They aren't especially fond of the cold though. Tire review websites are full of people whining about their dangerous-ness in the wet but I've had no such problems. I think those people need to stop treating a rainstorm like an outing to the 'ring.

how bad are they in the wet? some extreme street tires like the ad08 are really good in the rain. others like the kumho xs are a white knuckle ride.
