Quick question guys
My 03 z06....the vacuum hose that goes into the airbox down by the filter. I removed the airbox and now i have this hose there. Can i plug it off? My car threw a p0430 code i assume its from that. Dont want to damage my car. Can i plug it off or what exactly is it??

 

i removed the box the air filter is in which had a circular hole that this vac line went into which is strange as it must not be a vacuum line. The box has been removed with exposed air filter curious if i need to plug that line off or what in the meantime. I got the p0420 code i assume because of it? Hope that made better sense.

 

It is the stock air pump "intake" hose (ID = ~3/4", OD = ~1") for emissions - the air pump adds air to the exhaust manifolds by the heads. I removed my stock air box and replaced with a CAI. When I did this I just added a small filter to the end of the hose and tie wrapped the hose to the new CAI. I do recommend some type of filter so you do not get dust/dirt/etc. in the air pump. The air pump is located behind the right (drivers side) wheel. You will have to remove the ~8 7mm screws from the inner fender skirt to see it. I hope this helps.

 

like C3vette said, it's the 'intake' hose for the AIR pump, gets 'filtered' air from the air box prior to pumping it into the exhaust manifolds.

You'll often hear it on 'startup', a light buzzing sound, this aids the cats 'lighting' off and lowers emissions

Ok will this hurt anything to just leave it alone? Could this throw the p0420 code?

 

I bought a breather filter from auto zone that says fits 3/8-1/2inch. And its waay too small are we talking about the same vacuume line here guys? I assume so but the hose definately isnt 3/8" its 3 times that size. Were can i get a filter? Its 80 here today and i want to go for a drive but dont want to hurt my nice ride either.

 

It's pretty useless, but you do have to tune out the air pump. Otherwise you'll keep getting the codes.

 

Ok great. I was curious as to why not having a filter on the end would make it throw a code versus having a filter on the hose and not throwing a code. The inside of the vac line is very dusty anyway. It was in a hole in the side of the airbox or the dirty side of the air filter basically sucking in dirty air. Should I leave it be, or plug it off? Will leaving it alone hurt the car?

 

I did some research on that AIR system but still dont quite get what it is other than it uses air to heat up exhaust? So it shouldnt matter if I have a filter on the line correct?

 

Doesn't matter to the car; might alarm some smog ****. Mine's on a shelf in my garage, and I really don't know why I kept it. Even if I were to de-mod my car, I wouldn't bother to re-install the pump.
