Summer is here again, and I'm having a blast driving my Vette. Of course, the check engine light would come on.
Here's the thing, I pulled all the codes, but every single one is an H, there are no current codes (and nothing I haven't pulled before when the light wasn't on).
The only other thing I can think of is that the low coolant warning came on and stayed on this afternoon. It had come on intermittently when I came to a stop on an extremely steep downhill I drive on every day on my way to work for about a week, but this was the first time it came on off the hill. The fluid does look a little low, but engine temps are still nominal. I'll top up this afternoon.
Can that cause the actual yellow check engine light to come on, and not just the DIC warning?
The only other thing I can think of is that I just changed the oil last Friday. I've put 120 miles on the car since then, and the code just came on today.
Car runs rock solid, temps and levels on everything else (battery, oil, tire, etc.) are well within spec. Car has 104,000 miles and is the subject of rigorous preventative maintenance. I'm completely stumped.
Top up the coolant and look for leaks as it is not normal to have to top up. I believe a low coolant warning would trip a check engine light. Then wait and see if it trips the computer again. Good luck.
Also check the coolant resolvoir tank when the car is cold for cracks. If there is a crack, it may be around the stem that feeds the rubber coolant line. Feel around every part of the tank for moisture and also check the cap, it may be time for a new one.
