Get a Factory Service Manual
If you want to work on your car get the factory service manual, which is a 3 manual set. They can be bought new from vendors or used on the parts for sale forum or Ebay. They will cost anywhere from $ 50.00 to $ 100.00 and are worth everything they cost. Make sure to get the ones with the red covers. White cover ones are preliminary manuals.

2001 GM Helms manuals cost $295. For some reason they are more expensive than other years. 02-03-04 manuals only cost $195 from the vendors.
You want the Helms GM manuals. Everything else is crap!
I got lucky and found a used set 2001 with all 3 volumes in great condition on Ebay for $150. Buy it now and don't hesitate!
Start looking around and hopefully get lucky with your timing or start paying what the vendors are asking

Another option you may consider is the electronic versions of manuals. I have a couple of them, and they work fantastic in terms of the search, although, you have to deploy Tomcat for the application plus JVM SDK is required to be installed to run the application. However, it might easily compare with the book versions, for diagrams, graphics, descriptions, information, etc., not to mention you can easily print out items for installations for individual installs.
