So I found a Corvette on craigslist today a 2001 with 160K on it I talked to the owner on the phone and sounds like alot of care and maintence has done in to the upkeep of this car. Now my question is of course is that to many miles on the engine and tranny or will I get a few more years out of them. The car is priced quite resonably because of the high milage.

You need to give us the asking price in order to tell if it's a good deal, As far as the miles I would look for something with a lot less miles, It could go 200K 250K who knows, The magic number is the price.

exactly car was designed to go 200+ but only if cared for.
If youre a gear head who knows how to turn a wrench, Get it. If youre one of those who take your car to the shop to replace tire stem caps, Then you need to go get a low mileage high priced car. The LS1 is a bullet proof motor, You can get 250k+ out of it EASILY.

After thinking about this, I would have a prob with a car that has 160K on it, I would be more than happy to spend a little more and look for one that has around 80k, Now this is just me, If you are short on cash and everything checks out and has been serviced like it should, I say buy it, But also keep in mind there are other parts that might need replacing soon, So plan on the possibility of replacing things other than the engine.
Mr.Bill
At least for me, the rule of thumb when buying a used car is that you should plan on spending on 10% of the cost of the car for repairs. That goes up with the mileage, so at least for me I would set aside 20% on a high mileage car like this.
Mine has 78K and I would sell it for 14K but it would have to be real quick as I am getting ready to trade it in. 2001 6 speed pewter in great shape , the interior is awesome no problems with the drive train it does have the leaky butt.

For me it would be too many miles on the car but if the car checks out and you really like it, that's a pretty good price for an '01. A properly maintained C5 should get many more miles out of it.
I would rock that all day long as long as it wasn't ran ragged. Almost bought a C5 with 180k on it a few years back. I even have a friend who was still driving his C3 with 170k almost daily.
as long as it has been maintained that's a good price, do not be afraid of the miles. The market has some lower mileage options but the price will be higher.
don't forget that if it needs tires you can plan on spending close to 1K just on that

Stop talking about me,(LOL) I have hand tremors to the point where people ask if i'm having a heart attack. So I agree with bladex if you can't do the work yourself buy something else.
