Default Traction

Well I have to ask.. is it normal for the rear wheels to break loose in first and second gears very easily? I mean it seems like I can't really get into my gears.
I used to own a mustang GT with a blower and about 500 RWHP and it had more traction than my z06
I absolutely love this car but this is driving me nuts. I am afraid if I do any mods to it down the road its just gonna flop all over the place.
Thanks!!

Yes, it's normal, especially for people new to the car. The two things you can do are learn throttle control and upgrade your tires. What is the model/size/age of your current tires?

Yep! I don't know what the C6 Z06 guys do with another hundred horsepower (other than on track).

I have the same problem in my stock 2002 Z06.

A. Good tires make a HUGE difference
B. If your current tires are a few years old the performance does down the drain.

I have the original Goodyear F1 tires on mine. I doub't I will have problems once moving to a new tire.

So why are the Z06's like that.. is it because they are much lighter than the Mustangs? It's just wiered that I had 500RWHP and it was a world of difference. Well.. let me wait until i get new tires and then I'll ask the question

I had 455rwhp in my fbody with the stock 3.42 gears. That car would hook up pretty well in 1st and 2nd gear.

Honestly, I think its because the Z06 has more aggressive transmission gearing. Add in the light weight of the car + crappy tires and boom = traction issues.

Being able to easily break the rear tires loose is a good thing. I have alot more tire and HP than stock, and basically have a drift car in the lower gears. It's fun, and easy to modulate.

you need tires and to learn how to roll the throttle. i can hook first gear pretty easily but also have a good deal of track time and more importantly for launching, drag race time. the easiest way to hook first is to be moving about 15mph and roll your foot into the gas. if you just stab it you'll break traction and be doing burn outs. from a dead stop you have to kill the clutch slipping it as a power buffer until you have traction. if you just let it out, there go the tires

there are 2 good choices in stock z06 tires now, well 3 if you have a lot of $$ for the 3rd

1. nitto nt05. the 295/275 combo works but the 275 is short and 295 tall compared to most others preserving that half inch front/rear split

2. bridgestone re760
3. michelin ps2, the big $ choice

this is all concerning stock cars by the way. if you're modded to hell and back the only tire that's even half way capable of hooking up is the toyo r888

Tires made for high wear + IRS diff = spin-o-rama. Easy math.
