Default Will this reset the tune

I am having starting problems with my 97 coupe after it sits for a few days. Eventually it starts but in not sure if it is a bad battery or what. The battery is stamped only a year and half old so it should be ok. The previous owner installed the lmcr already so I don't have the column lock problem. Just starting issues.

Anyway of I remove the battery to get tested if its bad will this affect my tune? Or any ideas what is causing this?

Removing the battery will NOT "erase" your tune.
You either have a problem with the battery, the alternator, or a parasitic drain on your battery. If I were you, I would get my battery AND alternator tested by the local auto parts store of your choice...take it from there.

I don't think it's the alternator because once its running I don't have a problem. I'm thinking(hoping) its e battery or bad ground maybe which isn't too costly.

I'm hoping its not an electrical problem that early c5s manuals are known for.

Good luck, test the battery and then see where you are at.

the tune will not be affected..

Just got back.

Got the battery and alternator tested and both 100%. Now what should I look into. I've owned the car about 2 months and only happened to me twice but don't want to be stranded.

Looks for Bill Curlee's post/thread on measuring current draw when the car is off and idle. Or, if you can't find it, it is pretty simple:
1) disconnect the battery negative terminal
2) put a multi-meter in line with the negative cable (you'll need a jumper of some sort)
3) connect that jumper to the battery negative terminal and set your multi-meter to amps
4) wait for your modules to enter "sleep mode" and then check your amp draw
5) if the current is excessive (I believe 0.2 amps is the "spec" but someone please correct me if I am wrong) then you'll want to start pulling fuses until you find the source

IIRC, the seat control module is a common source. That's the only one I can remember at the moment...sorry.

I tried to find Bill's thread on the subject but no luck..[found it, posted below]

Hope this helps!

Check out the post linked above. After you run this test, you may want to post any further questions, etc., in the Tech section...if you need additional assistance troubleshooting your electrical system.

I hope it is something simple and easy!!

As these cars age, electrical gremlins are going to start popping up. Fortunately, many of them are ground related. The first thing I would do is check the ground on the right side of the engine block above the starter and the second thing is the ground on the back of the driver's side head.

I'll check the grounds next. Can anyone supply a picture of where exactly the grounds are located.

Will disconnecting ground or anything affect the tune? What will affect the tune is probably the most appropriate question.

Sounds like you have a parasitic draw...something that is drawing current while car is parked. You have to do what Sunchaser 73 suggested to find what it is. Could be something as simple as glove box light on all the time. Also make sure your battery screw in posts are clean if dirty a full charge cant get to battery. Good luck

The odd part about it is the lights don't go dim or radio reset to the point it's dead. It just won't turn over or anything. If I hold the key over for a five seconds or so it usually, eventually starts. Could this be the starter? But at the same time the battery volts reading in the dash drops all the way down....?

You could pull the PCM, put it in a kitchen drawer for a year, put it back in the car and the tune will be fine. Not a concern.

Wow didn't realize how many grounds there were. Thanks for the diagram.

Not sure if this helps the diagnosis but my key fob, when I sync it in it works for a bit of time but the passive feature causes the thing to honk sporadically through the day and night. Then after a day or two the fob doesn't work unless I re program it. What could this be and is there any correlation?

While you might have some other electrical gremlins, one of the weak points of C5s are the ignition switch. You might simply have some burnt connections inside the ignition switch. Bill Curlee has an excellent write up on that. What made me think about it was when you said you'd turn the key and hold for maybe 5 seconds then it would crank. Check that ignition switch!!!
