Ok so last week I got my first C5 vette (2001 vert) and actually my first vette in about 20 years. Love it but just had the oil changed as I don't know when the last time the previous owner had it done and the shop showed me where I have a slight oil leak that looks like it's coming from the rear main seal.

Question to you all: Approximately how much should this cost to repair and can anyone recommend a good shop in or around Columbia South Carolina?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Mike Yeager at Eastcoast Performance Corvettes in Greenville. About an hour and a half drive from you.

Make sure it's not the oil pressure sensor behind the intake manifold. It's pretty common for those to leak. Is your oil pressure pegged at like 120 or giving a 0 reading?

RMS requires the drivetrain to be removed.

Replacing the oil pressure sensor is a 20 minute job.

The pressure sensor seems to be working fine. It's at ~40 when idling and goes up under normal driving.

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I have the time to go up to Greenville. I live in Round Rock TX, but work in both TX and SC. SC is where I use the vette in Columbia and I am only there 1 to 2 weeks at a time so really need some place in Columbia Met area.

I've got a little leak from the rear trans seal and in the same situation. Had a local guy that is fully certified, bonded, insured, etc. that works on a lot of classics and knows GM in and out and he explored the technique of dropping the rear end slowly using supports all the way down the drive train to get to the seal without full trans removal but a mis-calculation and the engine tears into the firewall so he elected not to fool with it. Now that it's warm, the leak has gone away temporarily. Long story short: I sent a message to Mike Yeager and he responded very warmly asking me to give him a call. Since it's quit leaking I'm holding off but it looks like he's the guy around here for that kind of thing. I'd email or call him to at least get an estimate.
The Capital City Vette Club would probably recommend Herndon in Lexington and some forum members use Love but the bill would probably ruin a good pair of boxers.
You could contact Corvette Renegades in Columbia and see what shops they think are top notch.

Thank you so much for the info. I think I might give Mike a shout out and maybe take a day off from work if he could possibly get it done the same day.
