I replaced mine when i bought my car, just to be on the safe side. I changed out most of the oils and liquids so there would be no doubts of when they were changed. Coolant wise i run DEX-COOL.

The oil ring on the end gets worn in time and this is a pressurized system and you don't want to blow it out. It is about $5 and worth it.

Even though GM says Dexcool is good for 5 years, I never let my coolant go more than 2 years without refreshing it... I do not flush the whole system, just drain the 2 gallons or so that will come out through drain plug and refill with 50/50 mixture...
