Thought I would check here on the forum to get some input. I may have the opportunity to pick up some BBS wheels for my 01 coupe. Even though the stock size tires will be used, the wheels are both 1/2 inch wider than oem. Is an alignment needed after mounting up the new wheels? Thanks in advance for your advice.
If you are experiencing good tire wear patterns it's probably not necessary. When I bought my car two years ago, the front run flats were worn badly on the inside edges. I ran them for a few more thousand miles until I located some Z06 wheels and new tires then had the alignment done. Needless to say, the tech said everything was way out of spec. 10,000 miles later tires still look great.
When I bought my 04 (in 2010) the previous owner had never had alignment checked. I did it just as a formality since the tires were practically new. If you're changing anything to do with how she rolls, I'd have it checked.

You don't say how many miles are on your car now and whether or not your current tires are wearing nice and even. If you've never had an alignment done on the car, it probably wouldn't hurt to have the alignment checked.
I just put new tires on. The old ones wore even. I was mainly concerned with the fact that I may change something due to the wheels having slightly different measurements. In the interest of preserving the new tires, I think I'll follow jdot's advice and if anything is changed--go ahead and get an alignment. Thanks all.
