My first recommendation is to do a search as this topic has gotten a lot of play on this and other forums :)

I will give you my short .02.

Aftermarket shifters ARE NOT for everyone. Many if not most drivers are very happy with the stock shifter. Some of the aftermarket shifters make more noise than the owner will tolerate, for others the stiff feel in the shifter is too much. Before you buy I recommend you drive someone elses car/cars and get a feel for the different shifters (Kirban, Hurst, Ripper et al.) and see what is right for you.

In my case I prefer aftermarket shifters. I have rowed manual tranny's for 34+ years and find I like the shorter throw and more positive shift. Also my stock shifter had a habit of popping out of first that the aftermarket seems to have solved. In my case (Ripper with MDW ****) I have no shifter buzz, so I can't comment on those that do and how much I would tolerate. Also I race my car and that makes a difference for me.

Good luck with your decision.

I istalled a Hurst shifter in my Z06 today. I can't believe I waited over a year to install a short throw. It is wonderful. As noted above, any aftermarket is an improvement. They are all a bit stiffer, but the firmness is a plus when racing.

The nice item with the Hurst is the adjustability of the L-to-R firmness. They provide an assortment of springs which you can combine to your personal taste.

Install is a breeze with the instructions included or available on the forum.

Good luck on your decision.
