Default Ti Mod, change in air flow??

Has anyone done any tests to see what the change in air flow is when doing a Ti mod? Or are there any other modifications to the Ti exhaust that will improve the air flow? As simple as exhaust should be I cant decide which way to go, buy a less restrictive system and add 30lbs or modify the Ti's. I'm considering a FE down the line and assume I would benefit from a less restrictive system. I am running LG long tubes and x pipe..

Thanks R

Dont know how much power your putting down, but i dont think they will be restrictive until 700-800 HP, Ti Catback i think its a gold hard to find when you need it, i had Corsa and magnaflow before, boy i was so desparate to o back to Ti, yes mine is bypassed Ti pipe as well, for gain....may be a 1 hp or 2, but who cares, at wOT best sounding exhaust point blank period.....

FYI iam putting down about 650 Rwhp AA supercharged, not for a min i thought Ti would be restrictive, even if someone says i wont believe it or hard to believe.

I found myself asking this same question. I don't like adding weight, but I wanted more power...which is why I ended up installing the only aftermarket exhaust that doesn't add any weight, but adds flow....

BB bullets...

then I supercharged it...

To the dude above...Ti's sound damn good...but my BB's sound ridiculous at wot by comparison. To each his own, but I go bb...#becauseracecar....lol...

Not trying to hijack this thread but do the Ti mufflers sound good when you change out the restrictive catted pipe and put on a x-pipe? My stock exhaust is way to quiet for my taste.

At idle it is a little louder but not really noticeable. The more you get into it the more it comes alive. Especially with mods. I am headers, catless xpipe, ti's, cam, s/c. TI bypass mod and I would be a very happy camper.

Here's my $.02

Unless you're making over 500whp there is not going to be a hp difference going to an aftermarket exhaust. Just sound and weight. Even at that level you won't pick up a whole lot.

I started off with just the bypass mod and a Vararam. It was louder but not terribly louder. It sounded better under WOT and was still quiet at cruising. It was quite a bit louder at idle though. Probably twice as loud as stock. I wouldn't have thought it like others until I had my car next to my students who was stock and we had them next to eachother. The majority of the exhaust comes out the two middle pipes.

I then added Kooks 1 7/8 headers and ditched the cats. Whoa. Now it woke it up. Now it sounds awesome and is very loud under WOT yet insanely quiet when not pushed. I think it's the perfect combo, minus the smell. It gets really loud when you open it up and sounds ridiculous. I definitely need to make a video clip. Let's put it this way, at my last Sebring event I had people asking me what exhaust I had or mods because people thought it was highly modded. lol I was like nope, headers, intake, no cats, and bypass.

How much are you guys paying for the TI bypass mod? I'm considering getting it done.

In another thread someone said they paid about $300.

I talked to some welders here at work to see if they could weld Titanium. They couldn't, but started researching what was involved in doing it. Apparently to do it right it's quite an involved process. This is what they came back and told me.

The shielding gas has to be very pure 99.99% or so, argon I think. Plus the shielding gas has to be applied to the weld until the temp of the weld drops to below 500 deg F. If not done this way the welds will eventually fail due to embrittlement.

they had more info about the process, I think they just googled it.

I want to get this done also, but will make sure whoever does it is up on the process.

There's guys around here that do alot of Ti welding, but then we build and fuel nuclear plants. I wish I hadn't sold my Ti almost 10 years ago, but I do love my Corsa Pace Daytona tips.

I've done the Ti-mod for two local guys...415 out the door. Any cheaper than that is craziness...lol. I have like 120.00 in pipe, then filler/gas, plus R&R, then cutting the ti's, then cutting fitting pipe, then weld....a lot of work for about 265.00. Not to mention my background costs...electricity, machine wear, building overhead per day, etc.

To me this "simple" mod seems ridiculous for what you are getting. I'd rather buy a Magnaflow catback in stainless steel for $400+ and at least feel I got something for my money.

EDIT: Wow...I had no idea that the Magnaflow catback on these cars were up to near a grand! Got it for my old Cobra for less than $500 a few years ago.

If you track your car and are weight conscious the Ti mod makes sense. It's the lightest catback. Going aftermarket adds sound but also adds weight.

I bought Ti pipe for 25 bucks from mcmaster in california, shipping was 12 bucks i think, even though i can weld and have Welder at home and shop but still gave mufflers to weld specialist whose welding skills lot better than mine, welded for 100 bucks.

I spent less than $150 for this mod including pipe, welding, shipping......uninstall/install by me for free....woohoo.

$400 for this mod.......brutally lot a lot.

That can´t be right... I extended my pipes and all the piping for the ZR1 trans conersion for $150 after paying the guy who did it. That is including tubing and everything.

It can´t be that much just to weld some small Ti tubes.

On my LS7-Lethal.. yada yada... I gained 7rwhp from removing the Ti Exhaust.... they are good.
