Default X-pipe with GHL Bullets?

Are there any limitations with what X-pipe I can use with GHL Bullets and stock headers? Car is an '04 base coupe A4. I haven't purchased the catback yet, but just making sure this decision doesn't affect future ones.

At this point, I'm not planning to ever add aftermarket headers.

I need to retain catalytic converters for emissions, and those are within the current H-pipe correct? So does that limit what X-pipe I can go with later?

I know you said you don't wanna do headers, but most will still allow you to pass emissions. I just installed LG Street Series Headers, cats, and x-pipe on my car. I took it to emission just to see and it passed no problem.

I would go that route. The headers will make your car louder than the stock manifolds, and give you some extra ponies. If you want it louder at that point, you can go with a different catback or add electric cutouts.

Do not buy a Bassini. It will not fit. All others will fit.

I have an older GHL exhaust with a Magnaflow X-pipe. No fitment problems whatsoever.

Well that was easy!

The reason for no headers at this point is strictly cost driven. If I were to find a nice used set down the road, I'm open to them. Just not in the budget right now...

I haven't spent much time under the car yet, still new to me, please bear with me here. I was thinking the cats were integrated into another component of the exhaust like the H-pipe. That's where I was tripping up.

You were right in what you thought. The H-pipe is connected to the catalytic converters. You will have to cut off the H-pipe after the cats to install the X-pipe.

If it were me I would wait on the X-pipe for a bit and if down the road you get headers most systems will come with their own X-pipe and cats, or catless piping. You don't want to have to buy something twice. Most longtube header systems will not mate up easily with another type of x-pipe.

Get the catback/axleback exhaust for now and then upgrade everything forward of that to the engine later.

Their is a picture in this thread below showing the entire H-pipe/Cat section from a C5. The H-pipe needs to be cut off after the cats and before the H section to install the x-pipe.

Keep in mind that a lot of the sound from my car is due to the cold air intake, Fast manifold, AFR heads, Cam, and Long tube headers.

I only wish I started with the GHL bullets back in the day. It would have saved me a lot of $$ in trying different ones over the years.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm sure the GHL's will sound great on a mostly stock car. As you do more mods the sound will only get better though.

I agree.... Don't bother with a X pipe. Wait till you get the entire Long tube system. It has EVERYTHING from the motor to the GHL cat back included.
