I said that's no good for your tranny he said its completely fine mind you alot of the time he kept it in 2nd cause he likes the sound

No reason at all that manully shifting through the auto transmission would hurt it. You would just be doing what it usually does by itself. It doesn't know.

Don't think it will hurt things unless you just don't shift to a higher gear when needed, but seems like a waste of effort to me. If you wanted to shift, should have got a manual tranny.

As stated before, manually shifting your auto trans does not hurt it at all but it can hurt your time at the track if that is your intention.
Automatic transmissions, when properly built and computer tuned, will never benefit from being manually shifted.
This goes out the window if you have a full manual valve body automatic transmission that is designed for racing. If that is the case you must shift it or it stays in which ever gear you leave it in, but I digress.

I'm sure he does that so he can red line each gear which isnt great for any trans but I do that in my C3 because it does get me through the quarter faster by 1 tenth
