[Z06] Manual shifters
Some input please. There are probably 3 major short throw shifters on the market, for the basic street/track application. Lets leave out Hurst, and B&M. The other claims precision and ease of shifting, I find neither, on a consistent basis, I would like to know if it is me, the trans, or the installation? By the way the manufacture recommended changing out the shifter box when replacing your shifter to there's We are referring to a C5 Z06
Thank you.
Thank you.

I just bought a MGW. I researched for a loooooong time, and more often than not, this one came out on top. Everyone will say to go to a meet and try out a couple, but we all know that doesn't always happen. So just look into threads, and see what you think. But from what I have gotten from reading and actually dealing with MGW, they seem pretty legit and stand behind their products.
This is the short shifter.

This is the **** I got.

Also, you'll see at the bottom they have a "box" that is offered. A lot of people replace it, but not everyone. There really isn't a dire need to change it, but the manufacturer claims it will make shifting smoother and a little easier. Good luck.

I have a MGW also and love it but under no circumstances should it be bought for "ease of shifting". My girlfriend can barely drive it now and sometime needs help getting in reverse...lol
Mission: success.

I also have the MGW shifter with the race ****. Best shifter I have had in the car. The tightness of the 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shifts will improve with use. Going to 5th, 6th and reverse not so much. I think this is due to the lack of usage. I rarely use 5th or 6th unless I'm on the Interstate.

A C5ZO6 I just got had an MGW in it, it was very hard to shift especially into reverse or 5th. I really don't think my wife could have driven the car. I put a 2012 ZO6 box and C6Z shifter in it too. I love the way it shifts now. This is just my opinion, I personally just do not like the short throws.
Also in my opinion, I feel it is much easier to miss upshifts and downshifts with this type shifter.

That is probably the truest statement I've ever read regarding shifters. The fact is they are not shifters they are shifter handles. You can change the fulcrom some, shorten the handle and make it a little tighter or looser but the function starts at the shifter box and is determined mechanism on the transmission. It's not like the old style side mounted shifters that actualy change the function, the throw and the side to side movement.
The aftermarket shifters are just expensive junk, an excuse for poor shifting ability.

Define "the best drag racer". What is the criteria for such a title?
Complete nonsense. Adding a shifter that offers shorter throws and more positive engagement over the OEM unit is considered an improvement by many. It is a personal preference choice, and not an indication of driver ability in any way. Your comment is about as relevant as claiming that adding aftermarket seats is an excuse for poor sitting ability.

Sometimes it's easier to just push the keyboard away and not type anything. No such thing as best drag racer on the forum? LOL, you're a riot.
looking like the fastest guy on that list is an auto so that makes ranger not the best? or what about robz .... there are plenty of guys that have been faster than ranger and to say that they all have stock shifter is kinda a **** shot in the dark is what i was getting at.

To realize the topic at hand and that ranger isn't a credible, then I'm sorry..
