Default Help! Trying to figure out the problem??

Hi Forum,

Recently, my 2000 C5 corvette has been having this issue. Last friday, when I was going to use the car ....I turned over the key to crank, it would start but will shut off right away and it showed " Service Colum lock". I know its not the pin lock because I can still move the steering wheel freely. I also know that the fuel shuts off at 2mp, but mine shuts off right away when I start it...??? is it the same? I have taken the battery to get inspected, the auto parts said the battery was reading good... So i rule the battery out. I have order the LCM5 too, because I dont know if there was recall done to the car.

Strange was, when I got my battery back from the auto parts (they had it a machine for 45 to test) I install it back in the car clean the terminals (which there was no corrosion, but to be on the safe side). The car started.... but when i shut it off and turn it back on, Received the same problem. The car starts but shuts off throwing codes "service colum lock" " Pull key wait 10 sec" etc.

So im trying to diagnose the problems? any ideas or help?

Thnks!!

Seriously? Anyways - everything you ever wanted to know about the dreaded "Column Lock" messages is just a Forum away...

Also, any Chevy dealer can tell you if the recall service was done, and yes, the LMC5 will cure the problem.

Thanks guys for your time.

Im just waiting for the lcm5, hoping today.

Yesterday, I removed the battery and charged it for 2 hours.... then installed in back in. I started the car ... and it was running...... but was stilll giving me" Remove key wait 10 sec"; even after I have cleared it (still car on" . Once I shut it off to turned it back on.... it went back to not shutting off after I started it..... what gives? Also the battery metter on the car read above 13.....

Not sure this will fix your issue but clean the pellet on the key just to make sure it isn't to dirty to get a good reading.

Cleaning the pellet on the key is the first thing to do...I had the same thing going on over and over, cleaned the pellet and has not happened since. Once you clean it and if you still have the same problem then move on to other things.

How old is the battery? Did they test it under load? I've read a lot on the forum abot weak batteries being involved in these issues.

I sprayed some brake cleaner onto a rag and wiped it. I would think some isopropyl alcohol would work too

Thanxs guys! For your helping me troubleshooting the problem.

My battery is good... it was aslo tested at another autoparts.

I installed the LCM5.... it was so easy. It looks hard but when I tackled it from the instruction s with pictures may it simple.

My cars again! No more column lock or2mph cut off.

Thanks!
