New to the corvette scene, not new to the auto industry. I sold BMW's for a year and a half, so I really only know German cars in and out. We had a couple vettes flow through the dealership but very rarely.
I've always loved corvettes and think I may have tracked down a pretty good deal, but wanted to get a bit of confirmation from the pros. Found a 2001 Base, targa with Bose sound. 58k miles, 6 speed. Originally asking 18, but told me he would take 16.5. He sent me quite a few more pictures on my phone the other day, looks like a pretty solid looking vehicle, tires look like they are in good condition, paint is in great shape.
What do you guys think, 16.5 a good deal or should I press harder or keep looking?
Here are a couple that he sent my way - sent a couple of the interior as well - clean, no rips in the leather, it's wrinkled but that's normal for GM leather.
Vettemanjack has an awesome buyers list to use when purchasing. Extremely comprehensive as well as informative and helpful. Pm him or check for buyers list (guide) in the c5's for sale forum.
Wagon wheels on a 2001 is a little unusual. Wonder if he has the 01 wheels too?
It seems a lot of the posts from expectant owners are about "is this a good deal". While this is understandable, everyone wants a good deal, when it comes to Corvette's the main concern for me was finding the car that met my criteria, body style, color, options, condition and then affordability.
Pictures can be deceiving, but it looks like a clean car and a person could do a lot worse.

The thin spoke wheels on the '01 were prone to cracking (I know 2 of mine showed the stress cracks), that may be the reason for the older wheels--can't be the look
Thanks for the input from everyone. Vette values are very very hard to map correctly, they vary greatly. Just wanted to make sure I was in the fair price realm, KBB is way off as usual. I've sold 150+ cars, driven hundreds more so I have a good idea on the way vehicles should drive and what to look for when appraising a vehicle and checking condition. I am excited about the vehicle, but don't let my eyes and heart do the shopping for me, I take it very seriously. It's not extravagent money, but it is significant. From what I've seen, it tends to be a decent deal, with decent mileage. Most of the vehicles around my area are 80k+ miles, asking more
Where are you located ? Makes a difference IMO - -you might put it in your profile.
Looks like a very nice car and given your experience, assume you're doing your homework on vehicle history, VIS report, etc.
I think it's a fair price- although I'm puzzled about the older style wheels . . .remember too that if it needs tires, you're facing an $800-1500 expense depending upon whether or not you use runflats.
Since you're a pro, be sure to make real sure it' s what he says it is (correct year). Those wheels set off alarms for me, at least use that as a baraining chip. There is significant differences between a pre 2001 and 2001 and later when it comes to availability of replacement electronics. Those wagon wheeels make the car appear older than what it is supposed to be and will turn ff many buyers since body wise the early C-5 and later ones have very little appearance differences.
Th price is OK for that year.

Unless the seller just liked the looks of wagon wheels, those are not the correct wheels for an '01. Be sure you check the VIN and ensure it is truly an '01 car.
That said, pewter is a great color for the C5 (I had a pewter '00 and loved it) and the price is decent for the miles on the car.
