Help With C5 Value
Hi,
I'm more familiar with the values of older vettes as opposed to newer ones, hence the reason for asking this question.
I have a chance to buy a C5 from a friend of my dad. Here are the stats:
'04 Convertible yellow/black
Automatic
25K miles
1 owner and near showroom condition.
HUD, sport seats, polished wheels, ride control.
He hasn't given a price but says "make an offer". NADA lists trade in at 21K and retail at 25K. KBB says private party at 28K and retail at 31K. Not sure why a big difference between the two.
What do you guys think for a price fair to both of us?
Yellow isn't my favorite color but the condition impresses me more than the color.

I do not know way some guys think that mods should lower the price of the car. some mods can actually improve on what GM has done. The brakes on these cars are bad to say the lest the air intake is restrictive the wheels on the early cars are ugly, so some mods can be an improvement over stock. people try to impose there will on new or hopeful owners.
It is possible to find a good car stock or not stock.

But to some people, me included, cams, ugly additions, they will not bring extra value because one cannot prove how the car was driven.
Lots of people mod their car and then when they go to sell they demod them because they are hiding how they used their car.
It's always a crap shoot selling or buying.

For that car, I would agree that anywhere between $22K-24K would be a decent deal, especially if you can get it at the lower end of that range. Sounds like a very nice car and if your dad knows how the guy has treated the car, that would be a good sign.

A huge advantage.PS -- Take a look at the driver's seat. How does the leather look? GM uses (even today) cheap leather on Corvette seats. If the seats look pretty good that means: a.) the driver weighs about 25 lb. or b.) the owner took really good care of them, another good sign.

Some increase the value and some do not. Depends on the mods IMO. Stereo's, rotors, brakes, headers, shifters, things like that will increase.

I am always shocked at the low ball prices that people would have you throw at a prospective seller. I think it is the location of the car as much as the car that dictates the price. Here in Canada you couldn't hope to purchase a '04 Vert for numbers that are thrown at you eg. $21k ! Good luck.

I'd go to autotrader.com and put in your zip code. Look to see what the asking price is for similar cars in your area. Then go out 400 600 miles to see the difference in asking prices. Verts around here are listed for much more. Haven't seen any 04 Verts around here in the teens, or low 20 s.
