Friend has a 1999, manual transmission, with 69,000 miles on it. Occasionally it pops out of second gear while accelerating.
Anyone know what could cause this? Is this a transmission problem or a shifter linkage problem. I have a new stock shifter that came out of a 2002 we can install. Would that be worth trying.
I've heard of issues with getting stuck in or popping out of 3rd and 4th as the shifter fork is aluminum vs. steel, but not 2nd. Mine got stuck in 3rd and I had to take the shifter out to free it.
You can pull the shifter out and compare it to the 2002 one that you have to see if it may be worn. Other than that, they are the same and probably won't make much difference.
