Default ? For the detector gurus

Gona be on a budget for a year or two,and I am not a hardcore speed demon,,BUT I do like to push the fudge factor on a fairly regular basis. I see some travel in the future and do like to just be aware of whats going on.
Found a good deal on a Cobra SSR90 at a discount place and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. It does the usual bands ,laser and emergency strobe detection. Is supposed to have Spector 1 and VG2 defense. By the description, thinking this would be a good "beginners" unite. In a couple of years when I have a chance to sell of some property and get on a solid financial footing(discretionary income wise) will probably look into something like a V1 that is not in the the budget at this time. Any input??

K40's - in both Vettes, in both the Dodge Magnum RT and SRT8.

Great units.

Pricy.

Thanks guys,,was just looking for something for the short term that would be in the bargain basement area. Maybe I'll just wait till I can afford one of the good ones(read more expensive), I've gotten by this long. Just thought if it was half way decent for the money that it might be better than nothing. Right now $300-$500 is out of the question for a while! Have my money tied up in a project house, helping the kids buy a house and a new grandson! Gona take a little while to get things settled down is all!!!

By the way Bill,,,love your little avatar blurb.Spent a few years as a local LEO,and I couldn't agree more! Haven't read the full article in our local paper,,,but it looks like Illinois is FINALLY going to join the other 49 states and pass a concealed carry law! Of course the federal court FORCED them into it as they told them if we don't pass it by June 6 there was going to be a mandated general carry law imposed on the state!

Do some learning...Cobra was ok back in the 80s.

The only decent cheaper units are the ones from BEL (The company is merged with Escort)

I would be very wary of any alarm type product with any kind of snake in the name.

Sounds crazy, but back when alarms were the fad, the entry level market was soon dominated by a vile product called the Viper alarm.

These items gained, in time, the nickname of the inner city sparrow, because so many alarms with the cheap installs were random triggered . I have seen cars egged and windows broken out when the owners were out of town and the alarm sounded through the second night.

Sometimes companies like to link product lines with like names, especially if the product sold well. I would want to investigate the proposed product carefully to make sure it was in no way a piece of junk that is built for price bullet points over a product designed for performance and value.

Trying to say too cheap, poor value for the money. Some electronics are like that, primarily designed to take advantage of unskilled consumers.

I have no knowledge about this product. But any cheap electronic item with a snake in the name is still suspect to me. And it has been a long time ago, but that product was so bad.

I have an 8500 in both vehicles here. (one red one blue) They can be had for about $150 on ebay or less for a patient buyer. They have been a great addition to the vehicle and I have yet to be busted by radar since their installation.

Mr Bill, I would really like a large file of your avatar to post in my office.
