Default Lookoing for a Vette

I am in the market for a Vette. Most of the C4 and C5 Vettes in my limited price range have 100K plus miles. I am concerned abou the high milage as it may be used as a daily driver (5 miles one way) for about 2 years.

I am wondering if those Vettes hold up well at that mileage, has anybody had any major issues past 100K? Or should I try to find a lowe mileage car. I am not in a hurry and I am being picky.

Thanks.

There are a number of forum members here that have C5s with right at and some well over 100K miles on the car. Many have been very reliable provided routine maintenance is done and the car is not abused (not saying they don't drive it in a spirited manner, but just sensible most of the time). You don't mention what your budget is, but a nice, decent mileage C5 can be had for the mid to upper teens.

I am in the $18K and below. Looking for a "starter" Vette. Hold it for a few years then trade up.

5 miles one way

Dude, if you did that roundtrip every day of the year it'd only be 3650mi per year...

Believe I read these LS1s are designed to go 200-250k, so thats another 41 years

Seriously though:

I have a 1998 Arctic White MN6 Coupe for sale well below your budget figure. It would be an outstanding "starter" Vette. Where are you located? I'm in Virginia. Car is in excellent shape and has 132k miles. Since 100k, I have replaced the transmission and A/C compressor/accumlator 6/5 years and 20k/12k ago. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere now but wanted and bought a convertible. PM me if interested.

Where are you ? Please fill our your profile so forum members near you can make you aware of good cars available in the area.

In terms of educating yourself, take a look at the "stickies" in the upper part of the page like this one:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ion-files.html

With an $18k budget I'd suggest you can find a really nice 2000-2001 . . .depends on where you're located since it seems prices are widely varied.

Good luck !

I have a black 1999 FRC(hardtop), mileage 82500, 6sp.
This car is in very good shape, I have owned it for 2 years and it was repainted right
before I bought it. I would not hesitate to drive this car across country. I will sell this car well below $18,000. My reason for selling is to buy a 08 C6 with a automatic, so my wife can
drive it.
