So I went and filled the tank up with gas and headed to pick up my new exhaust system. Now about 15mins in my gas gauge tells me I am out of fuel. I stop about 45 mins later get back in the car start it up and it works the rest the way home. Anyone else have this happen and if so whats going on?

Most likely your fuel sending units have some sulfur build up on them and it is causing some erratic readings by the fuel gauge. The use of some Techron additive to the gas has worked for others to help clean off the sending units and return the gauge to normal operation.
I had a "check engine light" pop on one day. Added a bottle of Techron and poof it was gone. I did discover later on that my gas cap needed replacing as well when the light came back on.
If you buy Chevron gas with the Techron already in it you most likely will not have problems with your gas gauge.
I had the problem soon after buying my car in 2007 and cured it with the additive. Now I almost always use Chevron gas and haven't needed extra Techron.
